Hey, that's not fair. It's 40% rule of cool, 60% memberberries. I literally rolled my eyes when Titan took off towards the nebula. Who's gonna die behind a glass barrier this time? OH MY GOD IT WOULD BE FUCKING HILARIOUS IF RIKER DIES EXACTLY LIKE SPOCK DID IN TWOK WHILE PICARD SPEAKS TO HIM FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GLASS THEN GEORDIE WALKS IN AND REMINDS PICARD THAT HE'S A FUCKIN' ROBOT AND THE RADIATION THAT'S DEADLY TO HUMANS WOULD HAVE DONE NOTHING TO HIM AND THEN THEY STICK RIKER IN ANOTHER ROBOT BODY THAT'S PROGRAMMED TO BE FAT AND HAVE BACK PROBLEMS BECAUSE WHY NOT
Someone is going to die, and Picard will say "make it so," or maybe Picard dies and someone says "make it so" as he's buried, or some shit. We should be writers for this show.
She's soooo relieved she at least can't hear this thoughts anymore, that horny old bastard, it's just weird alien sex fantasies and smooth jazz on a loop even when he's asleep
I have no issues whatsoever seeing things on my 85" Samsung 4K LED screen. Maybe you need a better TV?
Kind of my working theory right now. I'm not sure how they readily tie Worf/Raffi's subplot into the main story if there's not something like that going on. But this, in turn, implies that someone with some knowledge of what the Titan is doing now is going to be involved in the duplicity (not necessarily someone onboard, of course, it would be major plot convenience if the baddies somehow knew the Titan would be involved in all this) The thing that's niggling me about Vadic is more - how does someone acquire a ship with THAT level of firepower, in or near Federation space, and no one has ever heard of it. None of that shit is free.
I am fond of the TNG cast but this sounds awful. Seriously, they had such a perfect swan song with All Good Things… I hate to see them beating this dead horse. After the dumb ending of season 1 and the total abortion of season 2, I think I am going to skip out on watching the final season unless you guys really seem to like it. If so, then I’ll catch up on it after its all over. I can’t believe they still have Raffi on the show. Probably the most annoying and useless Trek character since Neelix.
And the smooth jazz is the tolerable part! Well, was. Then the soprano sax started its licks and she was wishing for the weird alien sex fantasies instead...
Oh yeah, and the Fenris Rangers are scumbags looking for bribes now? I thought they were noble vigilantes fighting the good fight.
-So Beverly has been a rogue medicine smuggler/criminal do-gooder for how long now? Long enough for her son to have a criminal record and for bounty hunters to be after him, anyway. But so under the radar that Picard had no idea. -Do you think she was out there helping Romulans while Picard was sulking in his vineyard for a decade over how the Federation refused to help the Romulans? Too bad she didn't invite him along after he resigned his commission, could have been a fun family bonding adventure. -Do you think she knew about Rikers son dying because life-saving treatment he needed involved the use of banned technology? Seems like exactly the sort of job for a rogue doctor that doesn't mind breaking the rules. I can't imagine Troi didn't try reaching out to her. -Unless there's a double twist and Jack isn't Picard's son, Beverly is a real scumbag for not letting Picard know.
I figure it went like this in the writing room: "So Picard's an admiral..." "No, not just an admiral, a ROGUE admiral." "Okay, Picard's a rogue admiral, and Riker is a... captain?" "Yes, but not just a captain, a ROGUE captain!" "What about Crusher?" "Jack?" "No, Beverly. Is she still a doctor?" "Not just a doctor, a ROGUE doctor..." "I'm starting to get the id-" "and Jack Crusher is her son! And the rest of the crew are also ROGUE crewmembers!" "Give me a second." < hits bong> "You're right, this is fucking brilliant!"
Aaaaaaaaand, let's just have a little fun nitpicking this, shall we? First of all, the idea of having to deal with "incurable" diseases (or just about anything medical at all) is pretty much bullshit when you have the ability to take things apart on the subatomic level and reassemble them perfectly. You've got a genetic condition that's going to kill you? No problem. We can fix it the next time we run you through the transporter. Along with anything else that might be wrong with you. The radiation, however, is another matter. I can think of a couple of reasons why even someone in an android body would have to worry about the stuff. If the levels are high enough, they could overwhelm the shielding that's practical for protecting one's positronic brain. One could also posit that malfunctioning warp engines produce types of radiation that is unique and not normally shielded against in places and things that you don't expect to spend much, if any time, around a malfunctioning warp engine. Or, they shielded the brain but didn't think about the various controllers that operate the limbs, etc. As for limiting your robot body to looking like a fat old guy, I've got nothing. I mean, forget looking like you did when you were young, hung, and full of cum, but why not improve things a bit? I mean, fucking just go all Inspector Gadget with that stuff.
I doubt they downgraded them. It's more that history passed it by. In much the same way that an Apple II might have been one of the most stellar PCs available 40 years ago, but it would be a joke now, even a retrofitted Titan is probably no match for the top-of-the-line starships of the time of S3. I would similarly imagine the top of the line nuclear sub or fighter jet from the 80s would likely get destroyed by a top of the line counterpart from 2023.
Yeah, there was a refit within the last five years after Riker left and Shaw took over. And we know it's not the same Titan from Lower Decks, it's a relatively new ship. So it's stupid that it's suddenly less powerful than it's predecessor. I'm guessing/hoping that line has more to do with Shaw being afraid of combat than the ships actual capabilities.
It's not the same Titan that Riker commanded. It's not a refit or retrofit. It's an entirely new ship. NCC-80102-A. I'm guessing there's some spectacular story about what happened to Riker's Titan that we may or may not ever get to see on-screen... although I'm sure the hack novelists or fanfic nerds will come up with something. Anyway, you are hereby permabanned.
It’s interesting. All of the haters of modern Star Trek, Robert Meyer Burnett, Dave Cullen, The Critical Drinker, have all said Picard season three is great. They even said it was a return to classic Trek. I’m presuming they mean Berman era Trek. I’m not seeing it. I’ll reserve judgment, but so far, it looks like more of the same. We’ll see though.
Just remember that the first two episodes of season two of Picard were also pretty good. Just before the Picard train went right off the tracks, crashed into a bus full of school children, and burst into flames.
The show runner is Terry Matalis who is supposedly the sole show runner without the baggage of Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman. He also was one of the main writers and creators of the 12 Monkeys series which was really good. By all accounts he’s a hard core Star Trek fan, which I can see with the nods to the TOS movies. The problem is that these first two episodes are not that strong. It’s the exact opposite of what season one and two were. These first two episodes are an improvement, but I’m not mind blown. Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe the next few episodes are where the good stuff is. Maybe he wanted to just give us just enough to get us intrigued and then the good shit comes later. I can tell you this. If it does end up sucking just as bad then these Youtubers are going to get a shit ton of backlash because they’ve staked their reputation on it being good. People like @Diacanu will have every right to gloat.
I know Trek fans can be...er, passionate in their opinions, but I also think they'll extend some level of grace if the final four episodes that everyone will be watching together bomb out and somehow everyone was "tricked" into watching this. That said, I'm morbidly curious what's so radically different about this season that's got Critical Drinker of all people on board. Other than a lack of pointed commentary on how ICE is bad, of course.
So far there's been zero social commentary, the female characters have been weak and basically decorative, and the only person that didn't treat Picard with deference and respect was immediately cucked multiple times by both Picard and his own crew. The pandering isn't just in the visual style of the show, it's also in the regressive 80s style writing.
