Yeah I know and I don't blame them, it makes sense. Like I said, small gripe.

I don't buy it. You complain about every aspect of Star Trek that makes it great.

I do not respect or feel obligated to reply to any argument (online or otherwise) that involves personalizing it.

Real debate and discussion should not be distilled down to "what if it were you?" That's simply childish.

I bet if you took a poll, every TNG fan would say the number one thing people want to see retired Picard at his family vineyard. It's part of his character. Playing the TNG theme with the flute is a nod to the audience that says," we know how special this character is, we know what he means to you and we haven't forgotten what makes him so special." "The Inner Light" and "Family" shows us Picard at his most vulnerable moments and shows us intimate details of his personal life, we appreciate that, we love that, we can relate to that. It shows us what kind of person Picard is when he's not Captain of the Enterprise. "The Inner Light" is one of the most beloved episodes of TNG and one of my personal favorites, playing the flute helps assure the audience that Picard, as a character is in good hands. It tells us that they aren't going to ignore what's came before and maybe, just maybe, it's not going to be a dystopian nightmare that most modern shows lean towards, which in times like these, we need Gene Roddenberry's optimistic vision of the future more than ever. It also tells the audience that maybe they won't fuck it up because the writers might actually give a shit about the fans.

Oh please. I get so sick of the BS about Gene Roddenberry's "optimistic vision of the future".

When Roddenberry created Star Trek, 1,000 Americans were dying in Vietnam every month and American cities were burning every summer.

Forget Roddenberry's optimistic view of the future.

We're living in it. That future is now.

I somewhat disagree. I could easily see Picard choosing somewhere else to retire to after his brother and nephew were killed in the fire at the vineyard. Though I will say that if he does have PTSD, being back at the vineyard (and being bothered by the deaths of his brother and nephew) does open up some interesting storyline potential. It could give a darker element to his character without changing the fundamental nature of who Picard is. You know, a man troubled by his past, returns home but is unable to find comfort due to events which happened there that were out of his control. So, the solace he feels is less than what he needs, and he finds himself having to leave his home to do things to ease his conscience, both for his PTSD and the loss of his relatives.

As for "Inner Light," not a big fan. I mean, we find out that our planet is going to die and our solution is to send a frickin' flute into space? Come on! There's got to be a better solution than that! (Especially since it seems to do the whole "This message will self-destruct in 60 seconds" bit.) If you can't send a colony ship, then send a robotic ship with a couple of artificial wombs and a few zillion frozen embryos so that you can restart your species on another planet. Failing that, build a gigantic warship that goes around beaming a message of, "Fuck you bastards for not coming to save us!" before it vaporizes their planet out existence.

You lost your right to complain about that kind of stuff the moment you decided to mostly troll in this forum instead of discuss in good faith. Proof of this is found in the Discovery and Game of Thrones threads. You’ve never watched either show yet you feel entitled to whine and bitch about them.

I suggest you rethink this approach here because as it’s been said repeatedly, any other board would’ve booted your ass years ago.

And another reminder in case you’ve forgotten: your next ban will be your last one.

    You should calm down.

It's not a big ask for normal people.
    You're not that.
I'm not sure a producer with seven rainbow shaded heads, and two rows of centipede legs could give you your ideal show.

    You come across this way.

There's a group of kids playing a game with a ball on a playground. They ask you to join them, but you don't. Instead you tell them their game sucks, their ball sucks, they're playing their game wrong, you keep at it, telling them you want play, but they have to play the game your way. They all agree that the way you want to play makes the game unplayable. You tell them they're stupid, and your game is better. They still invite you to play, but you keep on doing the same thing over and over, without ever playing the game the way they do.

You do realize don't you that this thread is about a series that no one has even seen yet? I mean all any of us (including me) has seen is an extremely tiny clip.

Thus my opinion is as factually based as anyone else talking about Star Trek: Picard.
