How did the Federation lose its soul? By manipulating an enemy nation (Romulans) into helping them? That hardly seems that big a deal.
Depends on what you do with the concept. The ship goes from place to place, so you can have all the typical starship adventures. The interactions between the crew and the colonists can have endless dramatic possibilities. The mystery behind the ship's (real) mission can help build long-term interest.
Sounds too much like Space: 1999. I like Aurora's idea for a post DS9 Federation in decay series. So much potential in an environment like that.
or No thanks. If I want to see a decaying society (literally and figuratively) I can watch The Walking Dead.
An Organian captain, a Horta first officer, a Tribble helmsman, a Gorn navigator, and a Deltan medical officer.
Given some of your RR comments, I find that not at all surprising that you don't see it. But apart from that, it's similar to what happened to the US as a whole after 9/11 happened. We thought we were invincible. We thought these things happened in other countries. We were wrong. And we've seen civil liberties tested ever since in the name of safety and freedom.
Civil liberties are virtually unchanged in the United States since 9/11. To say otherwise is just to repeat a myth.
The proper term is USA PATRIOT Act. Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Yes, some fart-sniffing senate staffer spent all night on 9/11 coming up with that fucking acronym.
All right, let's get the Patriot act discussion in to the Red Room if you want a conversation on that topic.
I don't buy that the timeline makes it impossible to have good stakes. We have plenty of tv shows and movies that take place in real world history, despite us knowing the broad strokes of how things have to turn out. The Undiscovered Country was a good movie despite it being filmed while TNG was already showing the future of that universe.
And as if the new series news couldn't get better, it's gonna be Prime bloody Universe! Post Trek 6 to be precise. So the TUC speculation wasn't far off. Suck that JJTrekkers. Clearly someone at CBS knows what real Trek should be. The true "Awesome Trek" is on it's way! Plus, which I think is a great idea, they're gonna go True Detective style and do anthology seasons! First time in a decade that I am excited for Trek again. http://trekmovie.com/2016/04/13/bre...ill-be-set-post-undiscovered-country-pre-tng/
I like the idea though I'm unsure how this "seasonal anthology" thing is really going to work. In my opinion, if the first season turns out to be outstandingly well received they'll simply stay with that season as the time frame and setting.
You god damn fucking right!!!!!!!! This is exactly what I've been saying they should do, an anthology series. The timeline they're starting off with is great too. Great, now they can focus on one central theme or story like American Horror Story and a specific timeline each season without a bunch off bullshit. This is great news and yes, suck it JJ Trek.
It works great with American Horror Story. Yeah some seasons are better than others, but the show overall is great. Plus the seasons are about thirteen episodes so you don't get much filler episodes. You also get great character development and tightly developed narratives. You also don't have to spend years wondering how it's all going to play out. They spend each season in a totally different setting. I love it.
