so, once again we're back to you not wanting ni**ers and fa**ots on star trek... (scott thompson was wrong... it IS the double g that's the problem!)
You brought up race and gender not me. The real racists are the ones obsessed about race. I'm not obsessed with race at all.
The writer of "Counter Clock Incident" and Mike Okuda are fine with the April recast. https://trekmovie.com/2022/05/02/st...comes-new-robert-april-on-strange-new-worlds/ I guess it's one of those things like Klingon foreheads that'll be resolved in a future episode 20 years from now.
It certainly ain't Gene's anymore, what with him being dead 20+ years now. Honestly, I don't care if they shit all over the cartoon episodes or not. They were largely garbage. And April was originally voiced by James Doohan, so if you're not bitching that they didn't offer the role to the one son of his that's an actor, not really sure what your beef is. You might as well be bitching that Disney's hired RuPaul to play Ackmena on one of the Star Wars TV shows set on Tattooine. Shit, now that I think about it, I may just start an internet petition demanding that Disney do just that since it'd be the perfect way to troll so many assholes out there.
I've got it! An old white guy played out the events of "Counter Clock Incident" on the holodeck as April. Like Riker being Chef on "These Are The Voyages". Boom, solved.
As far as I am concerned, TAS (although I like it), isn't canonical. Don't care if Robert April was a black guy or a white guy. Is he a good actor?
Khan, for example, was described as a Sikh. If you're a Sikh then you're not supposed to cut your hair or beard. Now, tell me, are you going to argue with a 62-year-old guy who looks like this: That he can't do WTF he wants with his hair or beard?
I'm just playing the "Gene Roddenberry said it wasn't canon, so it's not canon" game. You can play whatever game you want. But if that game involves "VOY, ENT and half of DISCO aren't canon", then that's a pretty epic game.
Gene only considered TOS seasons 1 &2, TMP, and TNG season 1 & 2 canon. Garamet only considered all of TOS, then TWOK, TSFS, & TVH (and then one would assume her own books). Neither of them give you "The Best Of Both Worlds" so they're both wrong.
That's the rule Mike Okuda's books went with, but even Okuda ignored it for Star Trek 6 which Gene didn't like. Privately, Gene only considered canon the stuff I listed. I consider TAS canonized by Lower Decks, and Lower Decks canonized by the guest stars. And that Rod Roddenberry puts his stamp of approval on everything. He gets to bypass his dad. That's just science.
thing about the TAS canon claim - if you insist White April is canon because of The Counter-Clock Incident then you have to canonize the rest of that silver-ace comic-book foolishness in the same episode.
Sounds like Gene only cared for the episodes/ movies he had direct influence over. Having revisited TMP a few times over the past half decade or so, I’ll give him credit even though he didn’t come up with the final product.
it's been my observation that in "79 episodes, about 30 good ones", GR's name isn't on many of the latter as the actual writer so much as the kid in a group project who gets others to do all the work but insists on his name being on top of the contributors list.
