^ That's just blatant misdirection and misinformation.

The real plot is quite different, though I only have information about the first half of the movie.

The story opens with a teenage Anakin Skywalker flying to confront Padme and Obi Wan on the volcano planet. Suddenly a mysterious giant ship appears out of a lightning storm, which is actually a temporal vortex (the tachyon readings are off the scale) and begins firing. Anakin's ship is damaged and Anakin is left in command as the Imperial general on board is surrendered for questioning. The captain of the mysterious alien ship says that his planet, Alderaan, was destroyed by the general and his "Death Star". Then the captain kills the general, so Anakin has the crew of his ship head to the life pods as he engages the giant Alderaan ship with every weapon at his disposal, buying time for the crew to get to safety before he and his ship are destroyed. Luke and Leia lose their father, and Padme ends up married to some other guy on Tattooine.

Cut to a tweenage Luke Skywalker driving his speeder through the Tattooine desert. An imperial patrol robot gives pursuit and Luke flees, accelerating to ridiculous speeds in his attempt to escape. He approaches a cliff and jumps free just as his speeder flies off the edge and plummets to the valley below. Years later he's in a bar in Mos Eisley trying to pick up alien chicks when he gets into a huge brawl with a bunch of military cadets. He wins using some of his latent Jedi skills, but is cut up pretty badly in the fight. A robed Jedi, Obi Wan, comes in, sits down, and tells him what a great warrior his real father was, and that he should join the Jedi academy for training. Luke takes a speeder out to see a new Star Destroyer under construction and decides to go to the academy.

He is in training there when they receive a call about a planet under attack by a mysterious alien ship. He joins Obi Wan's crew and they jump to hyperspace. While en route Luke speaks up and says that intercepted reports are talking about the same "lightning storm in space" that destroyed his father's ship. Obi Wan decides to drop out of hyperspace early and they pop out into a field of destroyed ships, barely dodging some of the debris. The Alderaan ship is there, and it starts using some kind of drilling probe to tunnel through the planet's crust. Obi Wan goes to confront the Alderaanians while Luke joins a small assault team that will attack the drilling platform.

The assault partially succeeds but Obi Wan is captured and the Alderaanians succeed in destroying the planet. Back on the ship, Luke goads the second in command, a young Han Solo, into assaulting him, and as a result he gets dumped on one of the destroyed planet's moons. There he meets and elderly Han Solo who tells them that he should be in command of the ship. They wander into an ice cave where a door leads them to a rebel outpost manned only by a Wedge Antilles, who was sent there because he accidentally killed an admiral's bantha. Wedge says he can fly Luke back to his ship, even when it's in hyperspace. They depart.

Aside from anything & everything else, TFA will be the FIRST Star Wars film to open at Christmastime!

IIRC, ALL of the other films opened Memorial Day Weekend, or close to it, while technically STILL Spring, all the prior films were Summer movies!

I've been reading the official comic book prequel, "Shattered Empire."

It is not inspiring a lot of confidence. Issue #3 borrows plot points from Battlefield Earth. That's not good. You never go full Battlefield Earth.

    Surprising, this is.

New theory on Luke in the "Force Awakens".

Luke is the bad guy this time, as Kylo Ren. At least according to this article.

I'd be inclined to call BS.... but a point is brought up, in "Return of the Jedi" Yoda does give a warning.

That's pretty interesting, and Conery does go on to state "How many times has Yoda been wrong in the first six films?".

It is just a theory, but it is an interesting one at that.

Yoda gave that warning in Empire, not Jedi. And in Jedi, he pretty much told Luke he needed to confront Vader and Sidious and do his dance with the dark side in order to become a Jedi. So the theory seems based on an error.

Yes, Yoda clearly tells him in Jedi that his only trial left is to confront Vader. Confront him about what Vader has become no doubt. In confronting Vader and the Emporer Luke resists falling to the Dark Side, choosing not to succumb to his anger. In doing so he helps to show his father the light side again - redeeming Anakin in the process. That's what makes him a Jedi and it's why he didn't fail. He becomes a Jedi the moment he throws down his lightsaber, It's the whole point of the "I'm a Jedi, like my father before me" line.

Nah, I call the theory total bollocks. Having Luke turn would just be a repeat of Vader. Not only have we already seen that storyline in Vader if Luke was ultimately redeemed, but if it played out the other way it would undermine the character arc of the OT completely by having him stay on the dark side.

No, I think arc of the new trilogy has Luke as the linchpin of it all. I think he is going to be more than just a Jedi or a Sith. I think this is why

After all, this has always been the saga of the Skywalkers.

You forget that when Luke threw down his light saber during the fight with Anakin and stayed with the light side of the Force, he hadn't seen the prequels yet.

That, and Yoda was wrong about almost everything during episodes 1 to 3, and several things in 5.

Yoda had reservations about Anakin, but even in RotS he seems completely unaware of the young Jedi's pending turn to the dark side.

And, of course, Yoda completely failed to detect a Sith Lord he had regular meetings with.

If ONLY a fully trained Jedi warrior, with the Force as his ally, can DEFEAT Vader & his Emperor, then HOW did a whole bunch of FULLY TRAINED JEDI WARRIORS be defeated & wiped out by Vader & his Emperor?

Plus Yoda love to say "War NOT make one GREAT!", yet he trained Jedi WARriors for 8 centuries!

I don't recall the Jedi being called warriors. Could be wrong; been a while since I viewed the series.
Still, many warriors will tell you the last thing they want is a war. They are trained to fight a war if that is the only response left.

"We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers" - Mace Windu

"The Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times. Before the Empire" - Obi-Wan.

I think the Jedi are similar to Starfleet in that they will fight when they have to, but that is not their primary purpose.

The trailer is giving me some bothers. Ridley's acting seems shit in it and the final line makes it sound as if this is basically just A New Hope all over again.

Plus, that shot of the sunset and moisture vaporators. If Jakku is not a smoke screen for Tatooine then the symbolism is clear. Plus "waiting for my family". Rey is the Skywalker heir and Finn with the saber is a smokescreen.

    Yes and yes.

Also, any speculation as to the stormtroopers being faced with a darker rebellion are probably over and done with given the destruction they wreak with those flame throwers, accompanied by Trunk-Vader.
