John Brown killed slave masters/owners. He didn't "disagree with their politics," he was demanding slave owners set their slaves free, and when they didn't, he killed them and set their slaves free. Then he tried to arm the slaves so they could fight back against their masters, and the US government put a stop to it.

None of the men killed in the Powatommie Massacre were slave owners.

They were lynched, pure and simple, five of them chopped to pieces with swords. They burned a house with women and children in it to force the men outside.

See, by that point militias, some pro-slavery, others anti-slavery, were forming and were attacking each other in skirmishes throughout towns in Kansas because it had become a controversial piece of land, whether or not it would become a new state, free for all, or a new slave state, and there was blood being shed in the fight for either disposition.

Doesn't make what he did right, but this was during the time immediately leading up to the Civil War, when passions were inflamed on all sides, and it had clearly come to a head. What you call "disagreeing with their politics" goes so far beyond that it's utterly laughable that you'd say it and mean it with anything approaching a serious intent. Disagreement in politics is about allocating money, or how best to approach a civic project. This wasn't disagreeing with politics, this was about the greater issue of black human beings being raped, beaten, tortured, oppressed, and worked to literal death to continuously supply the economic system of the United States with fresh capital. This was literally deciding who got to be a person and who didn't. What kind of privilege do you have where you can see that as merely "disagreeing with their politics" as if it's a minor issue.

By the way, I bolded, italicized, and underlined the part where I disagreed with his actions in Pottawatomie. That you can absolutely see me taking a broadsword and marching people out of their homes and hacking them to death says more about your own internal fears and open ignorance than they do about me, because I do not endorse such an action. I mean, if I said I could absolutely see you licking the boots of any Nazi who guaranteed your personal comfort regardless of how many people they murdered, it would be a cruel thing to say because I'd have to pull it directly from my hateful, petty ass to do it, and I just wouldn't have the energy to be that way to a person on a message forum.

I saw a movie about Harriet Tubman a few months ago - it was pretty good, very informative.

I had them in mind because I'm aware of who they are, and I know how they were perceived, and the way they were treated when they were alive. Plus, I'm used to moderates whitewashing the shit out of them and removing the aspects of them that would seem so extreme even by today's standards, so I keep their names and ideas around as a reminder that the people we claim to venerate now were people the US spat on in generations past. That's what colonizers do, they take the good works and reputations of "extremists" and co-opt the language to make them more palatable for the white moderate's preference for negative peace and order.
