http://gayrights.change.org/blog/vi...buys_feet_to_the_fire_over_anti-gay_donations I may not agree with the donation, but damn. Just... damn.
If you don't like their politics, don't shop there. Of course, this being the USA, that won't be enough. Someone will have to file a million dollar lawsuit over the anguish this has caused, and Target will resort to trying to rehabilitate their image with an ad campaign involving guys of various minority cultures wearing store brand polo shirts while they sodomize each other.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Corporation#2000.E2.80.93present:_Target_Corporation As for Emmer, according to his Wiki page, he's for allowing pharmacies to refuse to distribute contraceptives. He's my kind of fundie.
The best part is how these lunatics think the majority of Target customers support the homosexual agenda. And the defecation hitting the fan? Well they should know alllll about that now shouldn't they? Priceless. I think I might hit my local Target store tomorrow!
I prefer TJ Maxx/Ross/Marshall's instead of Target for most things anyway. Stuff like laundry detergent though and bath soap...well, hopefully WalGreens is ok.
I'd be willing to bet just about everyone who's ever voted has voted for someone who they disagree with in one way or another. It's almost inevitable that Target's corporate interests will at some point involve supporting a candidate whose views don't line up with its corporate philosophy in every way. Everybody has to weigh the issues, assign importance to them, and vote -- or donate their money, if they so choose -- accordingly.
This has been making the rounds in my circle on Facebook (Don't shop at Target groups and the like). The reality is Target is going to financially back candidates that they see as having policies that are friendly to their business. Now what are the odds those same candidates are going to also have "homophobic" policies? They're acting like Target is supporting them specifically because they hate teh gays, which is ludicrous.
What's even more ludicrous is that Target thinks it's gay customers will continue to shop there when Target donates to politicians working against gay interests.
Meh. What's the alternative? Donating to politicians working to strengthen gay rights? That'll just alienate a different segment of their customer base. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
Or they could not donate to any candidates. If companies want to enter into the political process then they should do so accepting there will probably be other repercussions from their customer vase, regardless of where the company sits on the political spectrum.
I lived in downtown Minneapolis for several years, and worked at the downtown target while I was in college. To say that Target is anything other than gay friendly would be disingenuous. Target gives so many gay groups money that I almost stopped shopping there. The truth is, the other big box places give money to everyone too - to both sides. Boycotting does nothing if you cannot significantly hurt the target of the boycott.
Now that I can agree with. It should be completely against the law for nonpeople like corporations to bribe politicians with money.
Thing is that they do donate to gay friendly groups as well. Like a politician, they want to be in bed with everyone to get the widest customer base. I like Target as they have a pretty good t-shirt selection for $10 and I can find cheap Blu-Rays and Video Games there.
