Thinking about the probable amphibious assault near Odesa, could Javelins/Gustavs/MANPADS/etc be used as anti-ship missiles (or shells in the Gustav’s case)? I’d assume Russian CIWS is about as maintained/functional as their other equipment.

And now we get to why the right are SO fucking worried about taking action against Russia (beyond the cunts who are in bed with them)... they think such moves will be used against THEM next.

    Pretty much the norm.

Much the same as how there were a lot of people saying that racist fuckwits weren't representative of the right, but them being removed from Twitter or YouTube was then somehow an attack on the right.

Can someone please tell me what the fuck happened to bojangle's head? That is not a normal head shape. It is like his head imploded and someone half re-inflated it.

Anyway, I should not pick on @Federal Farmer 's dad like that.

During WWII the Germans came up with some kind of insane projectile. It was the same weight as a VW Beetle, here's the really bugfuck part: It was designed to be fired from a plane. In order to do this, it fired a similar weight out the back of the cannon (whole conservation of momentum thing). It was originally intended to be used against hardened ground targets, but by the point that it might have actually entered into service, the Nazis were literally just shooting fucking anything that they had against whatever Allied forces they encountered. The detonator on the thing wouldn't have gone off if they'd have shot it at an Allied bomber, but let's face it, if you're in a plane, and a shell that weighs as much as VW hits you, you're going to have a very bad day, regardless of it goes *BOOM* or not. I would presume that if you're in a landing craft and an anti-tank missile hits you, you're basically fucked, even if the missile doesn't blow up.

And now that I think about it, let me expound upon how shitty Russian comms systems must be. In '01, I worked for a satellite phone company. One of the Iridium models we offered was roughly as tall and wide as your average smartphone today, and slightly thicker than a pack of cigarettes. It also had a socket where one could drop in an encryption chip. If we could do that over 20 years ago, then surely there's better things available now. Yet, for some reason, the Russians don't have access to that (or are pretending to not have access to that). Wonder why?

So maybe Ukraine just killed the nephew of the chief of staff of the Russian Army. If so, Putin had better hope Valery wasn't too fond of Vitaly.

Is anyone else ... a little reluctant to put too much stock in the stories of Russian military incompetence?

It reminds me of the ineptness of the American fascists who tried to overturn the election. Does laughing at examples of their bungling just make it easier for them to take us by surprise?

It’s important to keep in mind that most of this is in the north and northwest fronts. The Eastern front is kinda quiet and the Russians have had moderate success in the South.

80% of Ukraine’s new found oil and gas deposits (it now has 2nd largest proven gas reserves in Europe. Only behind Russia) are off the coast and in the east.

So basically Putin has all their oil and gas now.

While it's a fresh declaration, it isn't a new assertion. Japan has never given up its claim to those islands.

Interestingly, the population of Iturup, the largest island, is more than 60% ethnic Ukrainians. Maybe Japan is hoping that Iturup's people will be more inclined to support the Japanese sovereignty claim now?

The latest list of demands from the Russians before they'll call a ceasefire appears to be a significant climbdown. Gone are the requirements to "de-Nazify" and "demilitarise" Ukraine.
