I do agree with the sentiment, but think about what happened in the US when Chelsea Manning leaked the obvious killing of civilians in the middle east for no reason. Did our public wake up and say no more or we will vote you out? Did it start a huge uprising against the war? No, our government tossed her in jail and people demonized her for being a traitor.

I would hope the people of russia would recognize they were being lied to and object, but most of them will probably get angrier at the Ukranians and want to see more of them killed horribly for torturing the families of those who were killing Ukranians in a corrupt and horrible war. It is just how the mass of humans work.

Certainly doable but it reduces capability because the TC has to serve as gunner, which degrades situational awareness. After the TC gives a fire command he should be looking for the next target while the gunner engages the first one.

Just as importantly, it means now two guys have to do crew maintenance instead of the usual three.

Semi-related: in Vietnam there was a guy with 1/69 Armor who crewed an M48 by himself after his loader and tank commander were wounded. US tanks regularly used three-man crews instead of four because there wasn’t a regular enemy armor threat (only one tank vs. tank engagement during the entire war).

He’d drive the tank into position with the turret reversed so he could get in it under armor, then he’d load a round, get in the gunner’s seat and fire. Lather, rinse, repeat.
