It is absolutely not a violation of the Geneva conventions to tell people that soldiers are dead. Knowledge isn't a reprisal, intimidation, or punishment.

For that matter it's likely a better resolution than official channels which often simply tell a family that the soldier is missing.

There are 3 amendments to the Geneva Conventions. Protocol I, delivered in 1978, covered protection of civilians and prisoners of war in international conflicts, non-declared wars including colonization.

Vlaidimir Putin had Russia revoke it's ratification of Protocol I in 2019.

He knew what his troops would be doing.

That's gonna be a pain in the ass. The Russians will have to recover them. I wonder how deep the Black Sea is where the Moskva sunk...

While the Black Sea is up to 2km deep at points, I've seen estimates that where it went down would only be 150m or so deep.

The irony is that during a Warsaw Pact/NATO WWIII-fight, it was expected that NATO would go nuclear first with tactical weapons to try to stem the Red Army tide.

Now Russia can't even defeat a small force without having to threaten using nukes.

Good stuff. I remember seeing a UK General saying that a plan is useful if it can be adapted quickly and effectively when the shit hits the fan and nothing is going according to the plan. An old civilian like me would think that teaching commanders and everyone on down to adapt to the changing realities they will encounter on the battlefield would be a fundamental part of their training...but from the looks of the Russian performance so far, I guess not...

That's not going to end well for anyone.
