It would be awesome if one of the courts hit Giuliani with a Rule 11 (i.e., the filings are a nuisance and the legal team has not undertaken adequate due diligence of the facts).

Don't see anything sad about that. I consider communism to be "extreme left" as well, just as I consider Trumpism and all other forms of nationalism (we have those movements in every country here in Europe, too) to be "extreme right".

Communism is an economic system. Not a government system. The extreme opposite of fascism would be anarchy.

Communism is just an alternative to Capitalism. nothing opposite or extreme about it.

Zombie Joe McCarthy can bite my ass. He's the reason people in the US go nuts over just hearing the word.

I mean, based on the philosophy behind communism, it's not an alternative to capitalism, but rather the natural result of capitalism.

Communists and anarchists both hold views well outside the mainstream of American politics, and both support going outside the democratic system in order to establish their preferred vision of society. That is enough for me to consider them both "extreme."

Not sure how. To me, the natural result of capitalism is an oligarchy for a government system - which is where we are now.

The Federation in Star Trek TNG/DS9 is communism - everyone does for the betterment of themselves and society.

Only because that's what's been told to you your entire life. Around the turn of the 20th century, there was a communism party here in the US and was very popular among the working class. The wealthy, who benefitted from capitalism and the working class not rocking the boat, did everything they could to abolish it. and it worked. Look at you, a normal working class stiff fighting for the wealthy.

I know a fair bit about the history of radical politics in the U.S. There were many far left groups active as part of the labor movement in the early 20th century. The simple fact is those groups mostly failed to achieve their goals because their views and methods were unpalatable to the majority of Americans, i.e. too extreme. The largest and most influential communist party (CPUSA) was in effect a puppet of the Soviet Union.

I will grant you that you may know more about political history in the US. Politics has never been my forte. But, historical novels and period writings do interest me as I am insatiably curious about how other people live their lives. I marvel at the high rises in downtown Chicago and I gawked at the houses above stores in Okinawa. The books and papers I've read from that period describe a working class approval of ... damn ... it wasn't called communism at the time ... but, essentially, the industrial revolution sparked the idea (or should I say re-sparked) the idea that labor was worth as much as capital in the manufacturing of goods. Plato wrote about a similar economic/governing system in the Republic. Early christian communities practiced a version of a communist economic system. Even indigenous people of what is now the US had a communal economic system for thousands of years.

Early Christianity was indeed communist - i.e., communal living, sharing of resources, etc. So are modern-day kibbutzim.

Workers' rights and collective bargaining are a function of socialism. Not the same thing.

The Right habitually conflates the two. Q.v. any of @oldfella1962's posts.

Communism, in the modern post USSR world, is a form of socialism. How the two are different is a matter of debate. I do not ascribe to either in that post USSR, both have economies based on the working class being paid by the hour. I am more of a traditionalist, plato and early christianity, in that everyone contributes and everyone shares in the gains.

That's exactly what I have been doing. I stated a couple weeks ago that my son has taken an interest in communism/socialism. So, in order to converse with him on the topic, I've had to read up on it myself.

Again, I recommend reading up on communism. Socialism is the intermediary step between capitalism and communism, (again according to communist philosophy/theory).

So how long have you lived on a commune? Shared kitchen, communal dining hall, all that? I thought those had died out in the U.S. when the last Shaker died.

I've never. But, my aunt lived in an intentional community in the 90s and early 2000s. I did consider it for myself. Even looked into some with shared income/expenses. They aren't dead. They just aren't called "communes" anymore. They're called intentional communities.

Nope. But, your statement does coincide with some of the same misconceptions I grew up with and had to relearn once I started reading up on it.

Meanwhile Jason Kenney is soooo fucked, since he already committed Alberta to spending billions on a pipeline Biden promised to veto.
