Just a small point, to illustrate how deep sexism is built into us. You deliberately attribute FF having a vagina rather than having sand in his penis which would be way worse. . This way of misgendering him just sort of trashes vaginas and the people who have them by making them seem lesser.

We find that normal, and I am not cancelling you for it, but you are using it to make FF seem weak and delicate which is not a female trait when you really think about the reality they go through life on hard mode and smile a lot more while doing it.

The reality is if FF had a vagina he would blow his fucking brains out in fear of the fucking thing and what it means.

    Yeah, it's called "free association."

You don't engage with people you consider "hateful" or "bigoted."

Eh, it's a celebrity filing a nuisance lawsuit against another celebrity. It happens.

    https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/james-woods-sues-twitter-user-812107/

In 2015 James Woods sued someone on Twitter for $10 million for calling him in cocaine addict.

following that, wouldn't a venue have the right to cancel any performance it deems as undesirable?

seems to me the target clientele expressed that they'd be displeased with said venue so the plug got pulled. Probably didn't fly well with the tech staff either...

after all, nobody is obligated to provide you with a platform, let alone build or crew it.

It should be, but I'm sure you know the UK's SLAPP laws better than us and we've seen that JKR has no problem throwing as much money as possible to shut the other guy up before it even gets to court. :(

You know when you drop and break an appliance, and you hurriedly reassemble it hoping no one notices...and it works...but not quite right....and you're filled with queasy guilt for the rest of the device's life?
Did somebody do that to Ireland?
    Did someone break it?
Is that why Rick is off lately?
Look, whoever broke Ireland, just fess up. I won't be mad, I promise.

This is where both sides of the political spectrum completely lose me. If it's something they don't like, they want to make it illegal.

Not everything can be solved through legislation.

This is a good point and I have to admit to ignorance. I’ve always just assumed Ireland had a Common Law based legal system (where civil and criminal are two totally separate things) but I have no idea. Maybe they are Code Napoleon based like continental Europe?

Yes, we have Common Law. I asked if it should be criminalised though, so maybe a miscommunication.
And to be clear, I don't think this should be 'actionable' either. The threshold for that should be much higher.

Like Spaceturkey said, Rowling is being sued for damages here. Just like the James Woods cocaine lawsuit, or Jean Carroll's lawsuits against Trump for calling her a liar, or any other slander/libel case.

    Examples of other lawsuits:

In 2019, Australian actor Geoffrey Rush won a libel lawsuit against The Telegraph for publishing claims that he had engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior towards another cast member while filming a movie in 2015.

David Schwimmer won a slander lawsuit in 2006 against former Hollywood fund-raiser Aaron Tonken, who falsely said that Schwimmer asked for two Rolex watches in payment for his attendance at a charity affair.

David Beckham's 2011 libel and slander lawsuit against In Touch magazine involved a story that he had cheated on his wife with a prostitute. The lawsuit was rejected after the publication's editorial staff argued that the article only included what they believed to be true.

In 2005, Sharon Stone sued her plastic surgeon Renato Calabria for allegations that he told several magazines that she had a facelift. Stone and the physician reached an undisclosed settlement regarding the case.

Actress Cameron Diaz prevailed in a libel lawsuit against The Sun, a UK newspaper that falsely reported she was having an affair with a married man. She was awarded damages for libel in 2005.

In 2011, Star magazine settled a libel lawsuit filed by actress Katie Holmes. The tabloid falsely reported that the actress had a drug addiction.

in 2005, actress Kate Hudson won a libel lawsuit against the British edition of The National Enquirer. The publication falsely printed that she had an eating disorder.

I don't think Rowling deserves any special protection from legal repercussions just because the things she's posting happen to be transphobic.

I don't disagree with civil matters, or suing someone for defamation or damages or whatever, so long as the lawsuit isn't frivolous.

But Rick and I were talking about criminal law.

I don't know if this particular case meets the standard, but I could theoretically see defamation/libel reaching a criminal level under the right circumstances. I know America has no trouble letting right-wing trolls radicalize the mentally ill into carrying out acts of violence, but the rest of the world is under no obligation to follow suit.

I get that there are people lioke JK who seek to cause pain to trans people with misgendering, but at a certain point it becomes part of the world we all live in. JK has chosen her realm of trans hate, and I am good with people slinging shit at insults at her. But we do not need to get the law involvbed in this shit unless it really starts to call for violence and effects another person's life.

For instance, I would be up for a civil suit agaijnst libs of tik tok as they are obviously and knowingly harming other people's lives through tartgetted harassment. However, you still have to figure out what the actual damages are. If libs of tik tok went after me, I do not think there would be an actual loss of income or opportunity. I see thy targetted a texas teacher who is cishet recentlyu for crossdressaing on a official dress up day. That is a loss of income via harassment and that man deserves a monetary award from libs of tik tok for him having to resign due to their monetizartion of public harassment.

In this case JK does not seem to be hounding individuals and harassing them directly. If I am wrong on that, then let me know as I do not pay attention to the rantings of a fantasy writer with no actual education on a medical and scientific fact. She has he opinions as a ignorant twat, and I do not think that we need to be harassing her with monetary civil penalties for saying stupid things. That is a public and social function that actually seems to be backfiring on JK as her own fans are bringing the receipts and her hatred only seems to fan the flames burning up her lies.

I couold be wrong as I have not looked deeply into this catfight, but it just seems like the tranny bitch is trying to make news by pretending she is a victim, which in reality she is actually making bank on creatyingh news through trolling when there are real people being harmed in very real ways. There are people losing their jobs, cannot get jobs to survive, killing themselves, mutilating themselves, and doing all sorts of terrible things way above calling some fame whore a man on twitter. If this goes beyongd misgendering someone online in social media, then let me know, but as far as I can see it doesn't. No one lost their job, can't get a job, got their ass kicked, got killed, or even got denied medical care because of Joke Rowling's words.

As much as I cannot stand people like JK, or even worse people, I do not want them being fined for having an unlicensed opinion unless it falls into the realm of real harassment. To a certain extent you open yourself up to negative words and criticisms by making yourself a public figure. If you don't like it then you do not need to be famous on social media. Turn it off, and live your life. Then if they follow you and harass you, I am all on your side with criminally prosecuting them. For instance I am cool with @Uncle Albert or others posting offensive shit at me as long as I can rip them up in return, or even if i can't. As long as it is some words online I do not care. If it comes to my real world front door or in my real world face I am going to spnak the fuck out of you for your harassment.

This woman has no purpose using the legal system to bully JK as far as I am concerned at the moment. Just as I would have no business trying to sue UA for misgendering me here. If I did that should come with a rteverse penalty for improperly using the government and civil courts to bully and harass another person.
