That appears to be a Biden win, but the article shows that it is Schumer who is the WAR

    I don't grok that.

Can we have it in non-sports metaphor?

Seriously. I just gave you how to type that into google. do the same, read the articles. But, the term appears to be a sports term. Anc is using it as a political metaphor.

Fuck's sake. Anc is saying that Manchin being on the team has allowed the Democrats to have more wins than if another Democrat had been elected in his place.

I'm not seeing it, but I'll wait until Anc gets back online to expound on his position.

edit Sorry to @Jenee for the reps if you got them. I was just pissed off that this was so easily explained and someone, @Ancalagon , had to use some obscure sports anacronym instead of saying what he meant when I know he can do it.

More wins than if another Democrat had been elected in his place? I don't know about that.

More wins than if any other plausible West Virginia senator had been elected in his place? Absolutely.

I'd love it if the Senate had more Elizabeth Warrens in it, but they're not gonna come from West Virginia. It's Manchin or somebody who will vote for Mitch McConnell as majority leader, and I know which option I prefer.

I think that says more about the state of public education especially in West Virginia, than any raving reviews of Manchin. We might need to revisit the freedom of speech thing because too many people are too stupid to actually question the stupid things conmen say.

Everyone expected Joe Manchin to stall, and equivocate, and offer mealy-mouthed compromises. It’s all part of the game he plays. Where he’s let down the 81 million Biden voters is by refusing to offer up a bill he could vote for. That leads you to the conclusion that he’s more focused on the lobbyist money flowing directly into his and his family’s bank accounts.

Yep. Trump beat Biden BY OVER FORTY points* in WV. Only Wyoming had a higher margin of victory.

And the Republican share of the presidential vote has increased for 6 straight cycles. If you think any other D could have won (Manchin won with less than 50% in that Blue Wave election) or 2024 you are in La La Land.

*In comparison Trump won Alabama by 25 points. So it’s questionable whether either a live boy AND a dead girl could get you a Doug Jonesesque win.

Yeah you got it right. In political terms it is your generic state level candidate. Former AG, leader in one of the state houses, Congressperson, etc, etc with no real scandals but also no real wins.

None of those types would have been able to win in 2018. Or in 2024.

So in terms of what his replacement would be he is very high value.

Compare this to someone like Feinstein who is a do nothing moderate from one of most progressive electorates in the country. Anyone who would likely replace her would be much more valuable in terms of progressive legislation. Thus she has one of the lowest WARs of Senate Dems.

My reading was that Anc was using WAR as a metaphor to say that any generic "replacement" for Manchin in WV would be a Republican, thus Manchin's nominal democrat vote, on the occasion when it happens, is a Win Above the theoretical Replacement.

Conversely, every vote they lose because Manchin and Senima are corrupt sold-out corporatism shills are loses because Democrats blew (at least) two winnable races in the last cycle.

That said, I KINDA disagree that Manchin brings the *most* WAR - I'd say that title goes to Warnock/Ossoff given their theoretical replacements and the fact that they aren't being prima donnas about voting for the party agenda (and also, both of them have gotten original legislation passed in their first year which is the work of governing that the Asshole Twins can't be bothered with.

Because i interpreted the definition of WAR, in the context of your post to mean…
As Manchin and Biden are on the same political team, Manchin’s replacement would be a Democrat. But in the context of West Virginia being the team, and the replacement would have been a Republican, then I get what you mean. In which case, I’d have gone with a different metaphors. but I’ve been known to take things too literally so you’re probably fine going with that one.
