They'll tell you it's you, because you mentioned rep. Apparently, acknowleding the existence of rep means you care about it and you're whining about it. But planning with others to drop hundreds of negs on someone means you don't care about it.
If there's one constant I've learned in this life, it's people can say anything they want, but that doesn't make it the truth. Let them say whatever, the truth is clear to anyone who reads the thread.
It would be nice to see percentages of positive/negative rep that people hand out. That would show who is adult enough to use something like a rep system
That's a great idea. Prick, Simp, and Mikey would also find that interesting I think. They too seem to have a genuine concern for issues dealing with rep.
Based on what criterion? Since the rep I give out is 100% positive, does that prove I'm "adult" or does it merely mean I don't dare to offend people? And who is to make that determination?
You're going to have to clarify that a bit further. There's so much nonsense that goes on around here that deserves a neg that just "routinely" using the neg button doesn't necessarily speak ill of the user.
i've never understood the theory that if you mention rep or start a thread about it that it means you care about the pips. i honestly doubt that RD cares how many "points" he has. i mean, i don't know him all that well, but the general vibe i get from his posts is that he's not taking the internet too seriously. on the other hand, i don't post whiny threads when i get negged, but i do care. obviously not enough to have a cry or lose sleep over it, but i care a little. at least enough to go back and see what the disagreement was about. i don't think the two are necessarily related.
It's not an issue of negging it is specifically who is negging that Danny is most interested in. It isn't as if he hasn't negged people before.
It's part of the made-up rules that a few posters have put in place to rig the game in their favor. They use rep as a weapon, then to protect themselves from ridicule they have made up the nonsensical rule that if you say anything about it, you automatically lose. It's the exact same strategy used by playground bullies: You pick on those you declare "inferior" and if they say anything, you ridicule them further for being "crybabies" and/or "tattletales." What makes it silly here is that these are not children, even though their tactics are blatantly childish, and their "bullying" is about as impotent as it can get. Nevertheless, they have somehow made their "rule" part of Wordforge tradition. I think they are rather enraged, given their reactions in this thread, that Rick hasn't followed the rule, and that they are incapable of doing anything about it except continuing to negrep him. They have to pretend he cares, because otherwise they have to admit that they aren't able to hurt him (that is the goal, after all) and that their efforts are pointless. From a sociological and psychological point of view, the entire situation is very interesting to watch.
Mayhaps it's not as complicated as you make it out to be. Mayhaps some people are just tired of seeing half a dozen threads about rep in the Red Room? (I always wanted to use the word "mayhaps" in a sentence.)
Mother Abigail Freemantle: Who this woman that comes before me? Nadine Cross: I'm Nadine Cross. Mother Abigail Freemantle: Well, mayhap you is and mayhap you ain't. Nadine Cross: I'm from New York. Mother Abigail Freemantle: Mayhap you are. Nadine Cross: Mayhap I ain't.
Then you should have talked to those who decided to start using rep as a weapon to try to hurt people. After all, people wouldn't be talking about rep if it was used the way it is intended to be used. Actions have consequences, as I have said so many times. Complaining about the inevitable rep-related threads, after several posters have made it a point for years to make rep a major part of what they do on Wordforge, is pretty pointless. The real complaint should be about those who spend their time looking up posts to negrep, rather than just pretending that those who get negrepped all the time shouldn't mention it.
I'm sorry but, Cass, Storm, Trinity and Phantomofthenet have not been around for sometime. So there is no way to do what you suggest.
You clearly believe so, and everyone knows it. Stop assuming everyone's as clueless and stupid as you are.
Personally I feel posting a reply is far more effective and interesting. I rarely use negs and then only if someone is being an atrocious assbag.
