I just finished chapter 5 a few minutes ago- I had a long sit today between flights, and I holed up in the jet and banged out a bunch. I think I'm going to roll right in to chapter 6 tonight, and then go back to edit chapter 5 next time I have a decent enough break. The next couple of days are shaping up to be a bit busier than the last couple have been, but then I go home on Saturday and can hopefully get really cracking again.

I'm having a shitload of fun with this. I've re-imagined the prequels a bunch of different ways before, and enjoyed the take others have had on them, but this time I'm trying to tie up every loose end from the OT and leave no plot holes behind.

When they go up, Chapters 5 and at least part of 6 will detail the dealings of Qui Gonn and his ranger team out at Serenno. After that it'll be back to Obi-wan, Gent, and Anakin.

There's also the matter of R2D2 meeting a lifelong companion to be resolved soon... ;)

Chapter 5. I opted to edit instead of starting C6 first...

Chapter 6 is done, and partially edited. Up soon.

With this chapter done, I can say I'm starting to move towards the final act. Actually, it might be more accurate to say that after where Chapter 7 is going to end. Plenty more to go, but we're slowly getting there.

I'm starting to formulate ideas for Episode II as well, which is going to be the hardest one to do, because it will the most different from all that has come before. Now that I've got so much of this one done, I can sort of see where I want to go with the middle chapter of the saga.

If you want a second set of eyes to proofread I can give you some corrections- nothing major and I realize this isn't meant to be "professional", but the offer stands. Also, thanks for sharing.

I appreciate the offer, but I like to do my own thing and stick to my own timetable. It's only a SW fanfic, after all. :P Glad you're enjoying it!!

Finished Chapter 7 and have done a preliminary edit. It'll be up after I give it another once over. Pretty important chapter, as you'll see, and a little bit longer than the last two.

Finished chapter 8 last night. The mother in law arrived mid-week so it's been a bit slower going than I had hoped. I'm starting a trip tomorrow, so I'll have lots of solitary hotel time over the coming week to bang stuff out.

    Marso, this stuff is awesome.

I think I'm gonna be sort of pissed off the next time I try to watch Phantom Menace.

Finished chapter 9 today- I had to rework a good bit of it so it's been a little on the slow side. Hopefully edited in the next day or two; maybe sooner.

Lovin this stuff Marso. Any chance you'd do a sequel to ROTJ? I'd love your take on that.

Don't know that I could top Zahn in that department. I thought his books were pretty freakin' good.

When you finish with Star Wars (will it be just the first three episodes or all six) do you think you could rework Battlestar Galactica? I think you could do a better job than Moore did - perhaps keep many of the well loved characters in their original gender and ethnicity and yet bring over some of the better points that Moore did.

I'll have to give that one some thought. I've never thought about doing my own re-imagining of Galactica. If I were to try it, I'd probably try to pick up somewhere down the line from TOS and retconn some of the elements (particularly the cheesier ones).

Of course, the hardest thing is to decide on is the endgame: when they find Earth, when is it?

I like Moore's version of Galactica, don't get me wrong; I just get the increasing feeling that he's 'written himself into a corner' and is struggling to escape with a sense of coherence.

Oh, and I missed you question the first time, Liz- my SW deal would be just the PT, to bring it more in line with the OT. If I redid any of the OT, it would definitely be ROTJ.

Jeez. Since catching up, waiting for the next chapter has been like waiting on your next fix of crack... gimme gimme gimme. I also read your Dark Forces short story and began reading Einnar's Saga. You are good at writing, I really like your work.

I had a hard time even thinking kind thoughts about Moore's version after he totally trashed the original charachers. There were other ways of getting a grittier universe without making all the hero characters versions of trashy soap opera characters. It made viewing the series painful.

They were excellent. I just think you'd come up with your own sequel and we'd get a different bent on what happened post ROTJ.

Thanks. I should really go back and revisit that DF short- it could use some work. I had a lot of fun with Einarr's Saga; I wrote that while I was re-watching the entire Highlander series last year. :P

That's been my biggest gripe with the show: no consistency at all to the characters, and they have all wound up being so twisted and flawed that you almost want to root for the Cylons to wipe them all out. BSG TOS was campy kids' fare, yes, but you frakkin' KNEW who the good guys were and even the roguish Starbuck had a heart of gold.

Heroes can have flaws, yes, but I'm sick of angsty, weak, morally bankrupt, emo 'heroes'. I like my heroes to be larger than frikkin' life with balls of steel. That's why I had so much fun with the Buck Rogers story, because I tried to give him some of the elements of a 'pulp' action hero.

Actually, I think that's why a lot of people liked Heston- his characters were manly men who could think and reason, but pulled no punches when the time came.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!!! And when it nuBSG was first a twinkle in Moore's eye and we were protesting, I was trying to get that point across and couldn't get folks to see that.

Every one of the original characters could be made to have flaws that were believable in the contex of the "campy kiddy" fare, which would let the entire series grow up without turning them all into whiny brats that need a good swift kick in the ass.

They did have flaws, they were just toned down sort of flaws.

Starbuck was a gambler and a womanizer- but he never really 'got away' with it. In the end, he was always being busted by his paramours, and sometimes the tables were even turned on him, like when Cain showed up and Cassie ran back to him.

Apollo was blindly loyal to his father, and a 'goody two shoes'. Perhaps not a flaw per se, but everyone understands (at least who's older) that blind, unquestioning loyalty isn't necessarily a good thing. Sheba was sort of the female version of Apollo, ready to put her personal feelings for her family (in this case Cain) above the mission.

Athena suffered from possessiveness (namely Starbuck), until her character faded into the background.

Cassie was a reformed 'socialator', which was the censor-safe Galactican word for 'whore'.

Baltar wasn't just a coward- he was a downright eeeeevil coward.

Anyhow. It just occured to me that I'm derailing my own thread.
