Re: Question For People Who Like the Star Trek Movie?

Everything he said - especially the bolded - plus...

    The bar fight

    Bones on the Shuttle

Bones confronting Spock (ending with the "green blodded hobgoblin" remark)

Kirk and Spock on the Romulan ship

    Enterprise arriving to save them

The Two Spocks scene (particularly Nimoy's dialog)

Re: Does "Abrams Trek" Really Have Any Long Term Future?

Aaanyhoo, we'll get a trilogy minimum, but what Trek really needs its TV presence.

This film is easily beefy enough to launch that.
If TVH could pave the way for TNG...

A couple producers have expressed interest, and both have wanted to do it set concurrently with TOS.

Course...now it'd likely be in the JJTrek timeline...

But still, big screen Trek is creamy, but it belongs on TV.

I seriously don't get all the praise for Nimoy in this film. Much as I love the guy and his most famous character, his performance seemed very off to me in this movie somehow. In fact, it pains me to say that I think his scenes were some of the worst in the film.

But who is going to produce it and will they stay true to the image that JJ has imagined? or will they try to go back the TNG timeline and all that crap?

Give it to someone who can share the image that JJ has started down, keep as far away from what Braga and Brannon did after Roddenberry died.

Re: Does "Abrams Trek" Really Have Any Long Term Future?

I agree that most 20 somethings don't care much for TOS. But they care about the other Treks even less.

Let's face it... Trekkies in general are not well represented in our age group. Star Wars was always much more popular and even that fanbase has dwindled with lackluster Prequels.

I grew up watching TOS reruns and that was the only reason I started watching later Treks. The TOS DVDs were the first ones I picked up.

But if you ask non Trekkers what they know about Star Trek, they are most likely to mention Kirk, Spock, or the Enterprise. Maybe the French bald guy, but that is iffy.

That is the group this new movie is targeting.

Kirk: "so her first name's ..."

Spock: "I have no comment on the matter."

That was true to character, and it was gold!

Dayton, on my count this is your fourth thread on the subject of a Star Trek movie you allegedly hate. To alleviate your obvious spamming of Media Central I am merging them into one and ask that you keep your comments on this film to this thread or threads started by other wordforgers. You will not get banned from WF for voicing your opinions on the movie, but please don't take advantage of that by spamming up the place for the other users. All your comments can be contained within the one thread.

    Thank you.

    That's in the sequal. :D
I plan on seeing this this weekend.
To me this isnt a replacement of the original, just a variation of it. So I'm not going to compare it to the original, I just look at it as it's own universe. After all, there's more than one "mirror" universe. This one just doesnt have an evil Spock with a beard. ;)

Seriously, un-box this. There are at least a half dozen "I love the new Trek" threads in this forum. I see no reason why there can't be more than one "I don't like the new Trek" thread, even if they are all started by the same person - as long as they are topically different.

I will unbox it if you can explain to me with any credibility what negative effect boxing it has on either Dayton, the forum or WordForgers in general.

    Until then they stay boxed.

I see nobody making this fuss when Baba's MC threads get boxed....

Most of the audience loving this new movie never liked those 700+ hours of Star Trek so it's not hard to forget something that you never liked in the first place.

Fine. I really only need one reason but I'll give you five:

    1) You don't actually have a good reason to box them.
    2) Now that they are boxed they are blended together and can't be differentiated or appropriately discussed. You've effectively destroyed the ability to have a discussion in any of Dayton's threads simply because you disagree with his POV. Sure he doesn't like nuTrek. So what? The point of a bbs is to have discussions and to facilitate discussion, not to stifle it Mr. Eliteforge.
    3) Baba's MC threads are random diarrhea of the brain that generally don't lead to any discussion. Observations about BSG music and lipstick lesbians generally don't go far on this board.. Dayton's threads at least had discussion and were well thought out topics, if disagreeable to you.
    4) Because you begin to resemble TrekBBS STIX forum when you pull shit like this.
    5) Because I said so.

    6) I expect you to box up all the pro-STXI threads now too as they have long past the point of redundancy.

The precent has been set with Starguard and Baba, a precent not set by me. Add that to the fact that much like those two Dayton loves to post excessive threads when he has a bee in his bonnet about something. That does not differentiate from them in my opinion. That is a good enough reason.

His opinion of the film is similar to my own, ergo this is not a "I don't like Dayton's opinion" move.

So basically we are to allow some members to post multiple threads on the same topic if they are not Baba. Great reasoning that. So if the learned densizens of WF decree that someone is an idiot then that person is to be given different treatment from everyone else.

Oh please, if I were shutting threads I could accept that but the threads are here and the posts intact....and its not hard at all to follow the topics. There are many threads which split into several lines of topic as the thread progresses. Are you going to tell me that despite all those years in law school you have trouble reading those threads as well?
Well, I can claim that line as well can't I?

There is no flaming in the Red Room. That's the rules. Are you saying Lanzman shouldn't enforce them just because you don't like it? Seems to me that many wordforgers would like the tail to be wagging the dog if it serves popular opinion.

This is nothing like a baba/startard spam fest. It’s sad that mods can’t tell the difference. It’s like they’re being purposely obtuse.

Of course don’t address the pertinent parts of my response – that you’ve destroyed the ability to effective communicate and discuss – the very purpose of a bbs.

No. Baba doesn’t make reasonable, thought out posts when he makes random threads in MC, or other forums. Dayton’s threads were all on individual topics about STXI. Sure he disliked them – so what? Like I said, we have many pro-STXI threads here that are blindingly similar that haven’t been boxed up.

It would be easier if they were unboxed and since there’s no real good reason to box them – you should do that.

They at least have a natural progression which you can follow. This thread has a hodgepodge, thrown together feel which makes it difficult to understand.

If it were a baba thread at least it’d be humorous to read. But it’s not – it’s now just a bunch of disjointed posts about STXI.

It seems to me that if El Chup wants to box the threads he could at least give the boxed set the correct title.

That would be something along the lines of

"Dayton Kitchens I Hate the movie Star Trek XI but wonders how Abrams vision of Star Trek will last while noting some good lines from the movie"...boxed set"

I mean, if you are going box them, don't you have a responsibility to at least use the proper title?

If you want an honest answer, Face, it's because no matter who was running the board and what they were doing, you'd be playing your same tiresome games with them. It's what you do.

From a technical perspective, it's a lot easier to merge threads than it is to un-merge them once they've been merged. And this issue is being discussed in the Shelter.
