"Better" is subjective. I personally would not include "relieving people of their responsibilities and the accountability for their own choices" in the definition.
But the one I live in is structured to extract resources from me for the benefit of not-me, and limit my ability to take advantage of whatever mythical alternative you're imagining. If it were as easy as swimming to an island and planting a garden, I would have done so already.
18 is quite a bit different from 23. As is 41 from 56. And I’m also assuming you weren’t in charge of seeing if she got a scholarship and kept it while in college? I guess I’m just not seeing the relevance of your story here.
He wasn't 56 (he was, if I recall correctly, 42) and she might not have been as young as 18. That was just the lower bound I set since she was at least one year removed from high school graduation. Fair point there. I find that hard to believe.
Two states up is Montana where Unabomber lived. Eh? Eh? Wanna live like Unabomber? Write a luddite manifesto? Sure ya do.
My bad. So she might have been 19 and not 18? Do you think either are different from 23? Personally I think there is usually A LOT of growth in those five (or possibly four) years. What do you think?
Actually I expect it will be the desert. No more snow, no more fucking road salt rotting away my vehicles because other people are too goddamned incompetent to adjust their driving to weather conditions.
I think the relative level of maturity between an 18 year old and a 23 year old varies substantially from individual to individual. I know people in their 40s that are no more mature now than when they were 18, and I know people who at 18 were as mature as other people might be in their 30s. But an 18 year old is an adult and can marry someone who is 18, 28, 38, 48, 58, or 68 as far as the law is concerned. For what it's worth, I am very open to the conversation of raising the age of majority, but I have huge doubts that society at large is interested in having that conversation.
Oh my Gawd, Chaos wants to fuck an 18 year old SO bad. Can we have a thread split? Can my first sentence be the title?
I am not, in any way, arguing that a sexual relationship between an 18-year-old and a 45-year-old should be illegal. But there are plenty of things that are legal, but still make you inclined to give somebody the ol' side-eye. This is one of 'em, especially when a financial power dynamic is added into the mix.
You seem to keep answering questions neither me nor others are asking. While simultaneously ignoring the questions actually asked. I understand there are always exceptions. But generally speaking do you think there is a significant amount of maturing that occurs between the ages of 18 and 23? I mean just think of the life events. Graduating HS v University. Living with your parents v living in a dorm v living on your own. The addition of alcohol in the equation. The addition of getting your first job and paying your own way. Do you disagree that all those things have an effect on the maturity level of most (not ALL! just most) folks? And then you throw in the economic control. Plus just the disparity in status… Are you really arguing that on the face of this everything is A-Okay?!?!
You should probably be discussing your choice of high school next year with your parents. It is not the internet's job to explain broke ass virginia farmers to you. Sorry scooter, but mommy's oxy and xanex come long before your tuition. If you weren't such a sniveling useless brat, and your dad was worth employing in a job other than a canary in a coal mine she might not need her little helpers.
My business partner was a long time union rep when he worked for Union Pacific. He always told members that if they got in trouble it was not his goal to "get them off". It was to make sure that they got due process and were treated fairly. Of course, in UA's world I guess that being treated fairly is the same thing as being shielded from accountability.
Only that they are both public sector unions and favoring one over the other would betray a bias. Not that you couldn't figure that out on your own.
Yep, every union is exactly the same...even the ones that represent people that can kill people under the color authority and partial immunity. No difference at all.
Garamet had the right about him years ago. Everything black/white, on/off, up/down. If a dimmer switch got added to his circuit board, he'd goddamned die.
