In all cases, the "guns" were either replicas or pellet guns. No actual firearms were involved (except for the police).

The first 30 minutes or so of this podcast cover why the police don't have to do their jobs and ways to get around the SCOTUS ruling that says this. In short, at the state level, you have to get laws passed that explicitly say police have to do their jobs. At the federal level, you need to get a law passed reigning in qualified immunity. Do those two things, and the SCOTUS rulings become moot, and there's not really any way SCOTUS can overturn them easily.

For people, not cops, and not a whole police department. You'll notice that the Minneapolis PD didn't shut the Feds out of the investigation into the murder of George Floyd. The only reason you close out the Feds is that you know you fucked up bad.

A good lawyer can handle the issue with the cops restraining the parents. Shit, they could even spin it to put the blame for the delay on the parents. "The officers were afraid to move in because they didn't want the parents to get killed in the crossfire." There are a lot of posts on social media saying that the guy who took out the shooter was an off-duty BPE agent, yet in interviews, he's said nothing to indicate that he did so. Merely that he showed up and assisted with getting the kids out of the school. If you were the guy who took out that fuckstick, wouldn't you admit to it in every interview? The guy who plugged OBL was ordered not to identify himself as the shooter and did it anyway. Because WTF not? You're the biggest goddamned hero in the world ATM.

These cops fucked up bad. They've changed their stories multiple times, and clearly didn't do the right thing. I'd say the odds of them having shot a little kid were pretty high. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if what happened is that the cops showed up, shot a kid, said, "Oh, fuck!" and then held a conference to figure out how they were going to cover it up while the nutter murdered the others.

Hell, keeping parents out of the school would have been the right thing to do... provided you had people inside actively attempting to secure the grounds and neutralize the threat.

I said basically the same thing IRL as soon as it came out that they waited around outside while the murderer was killing children.

Uvalde is a small town. All of those cops will encounter the parents of the dead and wounded children and teachers everywhere they go. The grocery store, the coffee shop, etc.

I don't see how any of those men and women can continue as law enforcement officers there because they lost whatever semblance of authority they might've had before last Tuesday.

Also, a correction: apparently the city and school district police are cooperating with state investigators but the school police chief hasn't responded to requests for a follow-up interview.

Somebody on Twitter checked and the Uvalde city charter does have a recall system in place in case the citizens of whatever council district Arredondo now represents decide they don't want him in office after all.
