Hell, only a couple of those items show any kind of oddness (the photos and the bloody rags). The rest could be from the home of anyone who likes guns.

The gun was the instrument, not the agent.

I thought the spear was kind of odd as well.

Your semantics are adorable. Why not take it one step further and say that technically speaking they were killed by severe blood loss, hypoxia, and/or major organ damage?

Because none of those things would have happened if Lanza had not been the one to willingly point his weapon and pull the trigger.

    Specificity. :diacanu:

They were killed BY Adam Lanza. They were killed WITH a Bushmaster. They died FROM their injuries.

I've got a couple of nice swords on display.

Though I've never heard of a spear collector either, replicas are made for period reenactors. Maybe the survivalist mom thought she'd need one for hog hunting some day.

As far as I'm concerned that was settled the day after the shooting when the chief medical examiner stated in a press conference that all the victims died from rifle-caliber gunshots.

A lot of the conspiracy-minded folks on my Facebook feed have gotten themselves hidden because they persisted in posting "Lanza didn't actually use the Bushmaster" links to whackjob internet sites.

Meh - common usage. Clearly my meaning was conveyed. And clearly your comments have nothing to do with that meaning.

The point was the conspiracy theorists are still repeating the lie that the assault weapon wasn't used in the murders. It's still making the rounds, and numerous discussions after articles you'll find someone spouting that little gem.

But then, I remember the number of Wordforgers who clung to the 'Obama isn't eligible to be President' meme long after the issue was positively settled - YEARS after, in fact.

Inasmuch as your comments (deliberately or not) transferred agency from an individual to an inanimate object, they had quite a lot to do with meaning.
It was the Bushmaster rifle that was used. But, actually, Lanza's weapon was NOT an assault weapon under Connecticut law. Lanza's AR was compliant with Connecticut's assault weapon law.

I can't believe this thread is still going on. For the last time, it was not a Mass shooting. It happened in Conn.

You've got me there. Although to be fair, I didn't have after market attachments that facilitate accurate bump firing in mind when I said that.

I'm all for banning them.
