I got two "optimistic" and one "agree" on this post. Truly, my wordforge experience has been enhanced beyond measure. Is the board prepared to handle the surge in membership that's sure to result from this glorious innovation?
This seems unnecessarily confusing. Why not just have like and dislike? If someone has another sentiment they would like to express towards a particular post, they can hit reply and actually type out a response. Unless the goal here is to reduce the post count and make the board seem even less active than it already is? Just my two cents.
Shrug, just use the first two options and ignore the rest, then. Some of the others can be a bit useful for fun, kind of a playful poke option. I've never liked comments, because I agree with you that they cause less posting, but these are basically a way to assign an emoticon to somebody's post.
I like the two new ones, and would support some more WF ones, but think some of the stock ones should be pared down (they now take up two lines on mobile). Like/Dislike and Agree/Disagree seem close enough to be redundant. Same for Constructive and Informative. Spell Check is dumb. Speaking of which, dump should be huh or blink or some classic WF smilie instead of a box. I also like the idea of a creepy smilie someone suggested. I think this could be a fun addition, just need to work on implementation/customization.
I agree about the number of them, too. We don't want this to become a smaller version of the WF Smileypalooza.
So, no "Most Spectacular Fail Since Lesbian Shoes" or "Ted Would Have Loved This Post" buttons, then?
I can remove "bad spelling," "informative", and "useful" emotes, as they really serve no purpose, and remove the "agree" and "disagree" options. That should pare things down nicely, eh?
No, leave the agree/disagree. There are posts that I like that I don't necessarily agree with and vice versa. They should stay. As for the rest, I like "winner", "funny", "informative" and "old". Agree that "useful", "spelling" and "creative" are pretty redundant. I'd also add "friendly" to that. Don't see there being much use for it.I have to say that I also feel that way about "teh baba", despite it's relevance to the board overall. What you could do is list the non-custom options in a thread and run a multiple choice poll to see which ones get voted for the most.
I'd keep Agree/Disagree over Like/Dislike. We had Agree/Disagree for 6 or so years, compared to one year of 'Like'. Agree that creative should go. Replace friendly with a hug emoticon or something along those line?
What's "old" meant to be used for? News articles from 2007 being posted as if they're new? An argument that's getting old? The latest bumping of the Thunder Thighs thread? Or just something for the Usual Suspects to use when they get confused and start mistaking @garamet for their grandmothers again?
Okay, so: Replace "Like/Dislike" with "Agree/Disagree," and remove "old", "informative," "useful," "bad spelling".
The new rating system works like this (in order): Agree (check) Disagree (x) Funny (smiling guy) Winner (award) Love This! (heart) Fantasy World (rainbow) Dumb (box thing) No u (doggy face) Teh Baba (tomato guy) How's that?
Can we still make suggestions for the categories? I would like to see either useful or informative or something like "appreciate the effort" return. I know there are times when I am impressed by someone's effort, research, clarity, or patience, even if I think they're wrong. And for the reason stated earlier, I don't think "I love this!" is a good replacement for "Friendly". I don't love that your favorite squirrel has joined the Klan, but I feel for you. Someone suggested a Hug button, that would be perfect.
Well it seems a bit more manageable on the website than it does on the mobile site. But don't these three basically convey the same sentiment? 'Dumb' 'No U' 'The Baba' I would even use the emoticon Chuck posted right before me, to represent all three.
Dumb -- for a post that is irredeemably stupid No U -- sends the statement back to the original poster, as in no, you die in a fire! Teh baba -- no idea on this one.
I just had a moment of horror envisioning a "What an asshole!" category with a goatse.cx themed icon. Even more horrifying when I realized how much it would get used.
Yeah, honestly I'm not up for any more major changes, if only because I'm trying to implement something that is uncomplicated. This is the kind of debate that would never end, as someone would come up with another suggestion, and next thing you know we've got five rows of post icons taking longer to load than the thread itself. So yeah, I'd say aside from some very minor changes, how it looks is how it will look. We can always wait a few months, see how things are, and adjust as necessary.
