    Except time, energy and dignity.

Here's what you do, man. If they're churning out awful shit that you feel is cynical, greedy, maybe has just a shade of mockery of the thing you loved to it?

Write your own. Or draw it. Or build it out of popsicle sticks. If you want your idea of Star Trek back, create it. Only you have the power to create the exact thing you want to see in the world. So if you're bitchin' about NuTrek because you happen to take perverse pleasure in bitchin' about NuTrek, as I do, bitch on. If you're bitchin' about NuTrek because you want real Star Trek back, you're SOL, bud. Ain't gonna happen.

You seem to have a view that to be a Christian is to live in a permanent state of wimpiness.

    Love is not wimpiness.

Neither is control, judgement, violence or viciousness to others any kind of strength. It's the behavior of cowards and self-aggrandizers who are deluded by their own supposed superiority.

So, just taking about the movies, we've got...

...a torpedo that, when it explodes, systematically converts a nebula into a habitable world complete with sun...

...the transference of a soul from one person to another and back again...

...a probe that will destroy the Earth unless humpback whales respond to its calls...

...and a being who pretends to be God, living on a planet in the center(!!!) of the galaxy, and who summons via a telepathic vision a renegade Vulcan to bring a starship.

I won't even go into the minor absurdities--a warship so stealthily cloaked as to be undetectable by the finest instruments, but yet which emits an easily traced exhaust gas; needing to collect photons from a Navy vessel's reactor to-recrystalize dilthium, when starships seem to have abundant methods for producing any type of radiation desired; a beacon placed on Captain Kirk's shoulder that is not detected or removed during his trial or imprisonment on an alien world--but there are plenty of them.

And regenerative blood is too big a stretch for you?

Unless and until the motherfucker sprouts symmetrical dual cowlicks that make him look like a half shaved owl on steroids, muttonchops bust out of his cheeks, he chomps down on a stogie and pops paper cutters out his damn knuckles, I don't wanna hear shit about no Jeebus blood. And I don't wanna see any cameo by Patrick Stewart as Captain Professor Jean-Luc Xavier, neither.

You were a twat when you said this about nuBSG on TBBS and you are still a twat now.

Seriously, how much of a failure at life must you be to want to actually hurt others enjoyment of a movie or TV show?

How much of an idiot do you have to be to not realize you aren't going to drive anyone away from them?

Personally, I could care less if anyone likes Abrams Trek or not. Mostly what I respond to are claims that the movie is good when it clearly isn't. The same as if someone made the claim for Starship Troopers, the Star Wars prequels, or any other bad movie.

Probably because there aren't really any such threads, and, comparatively, there isn't as much to talk about.

Then you weren't paying much attention to the pre-release interviews. There are also plenty of fans who have made that argument.

They didn't directly call it bad writing. I believe the term Abrams used was "kitschy" or something along those lines.

 You seem to have me mistaken for someone else. Still, it amuses me that the only way you can think to counter criticism of this movie is to point at other bad writing, like that excuses this particular bad writing or something. Hell, I can remember having these arguments about ENT when it was airing. So nice to know that the fandom never really changes.

I suspect you think I'm making a point I have no interest in making (and don't even believe).

Possibly you fare better when you assign your opponents position to them rather than letting their remarks speak for themselves?

Yeah, but unless it was 100% gusher, the gushers will dismiss it. Remember, the JJTrek gushers hate real Star Trek. They think it's corny. Or cheesy. Or whatever. They don't give a shit that it was allegorical. They don't give a shit that there was more to it than "alien women in bikinis" and "rocket ships". They don't mind that superficial stuff, but they won't tolerate that there was more to it than that. And don't you dare remind them, or you're a "hater" for pointing out the empty-headed, brainless spectacle that "In the nowwwwwwwwww" Ethan J.J. Hawke Abrams slung at them on a styrofoam plate. That's all they want. That's all they can handle, is the superficial whizzbangboom. Don't ask them to think. Don't ask them to put in any cerebral effort. They fuckin' can't.

I played a small role in promoting discontent with the show. Go back to when it first came on the air. The TrekBBS was gushing with how it was the best Star Trek since the original.

I at least provided a contrarian viewpoint (I and a handful of others). Eventually this view became dominant and when Enterprise was headed for cancelation, even entertainment news stories about it mentioned "widespread discontent with the series at the largest Trek message board (TrekBBS)"

Oh, I can make shit up too!

JJ bashers hate all that is good in life! Except eating feces! There wasn't a JJ basher born that doesn't eat feces. Every man, woman, and child. No exceptions. Ever. Mostly their own, but sometimes each others. Their taste-buds reject anything else but feces. Give them real food to eat, they spit it out, and then vomit up a huge pile of pre-consumed feces.
They're sub-human filth. Not even LIFEFORMS! Killing one is less than stepping on an insect. It's like walking on DIRT. No court in the land will convict you. Kill, kill, KILL! It's not EVEN killing! Destroy them all, because as I said, there are no exceptions. Every man, woman, and child. There can be no escape for any of them. If you are derelict in your duty, you will be executed yourself. By your own family! Purify your fatherland!!

There, that's how you shovel bullshit.
    No half measures.

You know it is utterly amazing.

For literally DECADES Star Trek fans felt their franchise was superior to Star Wars because it was not "mindless action" like Star Wars.

Now, Star Trek "fans" not only have stopped bothering to feel it, but they've embraced the transformation of Star Trek into a clone of Star Wars all in the name of general popularity.

I was not one of those.

And, I never thought Star Wars was "mindless action".
I always thought that was a lazy description from the mentally slovenly.

I wasn't one of them either. I considered it a bit elitist in my opinion though "mindless action" has been validated in part by the three prequel movies.

But it doesn't change the fact that Star Trek fans did in fact advance that idea for years.

But when 2009 Abramstrek turned out to be loved by critics and had a very high box office.......

You're the one who brought up "real Star Trek", not I. And this in response to being called on defending bad writing.
