Even if it’s all true (and that is still in question), Donald, Jared, and Ivanka were government officials at the time. None of the other Bidens are. You know who’s gotten minimal to no shit for taking foreign cash and deals? Melania, Eric, and Tiffany. This is not a distinction without a difference. Should this (if true) lead to more stringent rules around family members of elected officials? Eh, maybe. There’s pros and cons to it. More disclosure requirements would likely help, but there are 4th amendment issues there.

I love how all the reports talk about "payments" and "receiving money" as if somebody just dropped off a suitcase of cash on Hunter's doorstep.

There's a pretty big difference between running a company that sells a product and gets paid a reasonable market rate for it, and simply having somebody hand you a bunch of money with no clear explanation as to why. The fact that the Republicans' "investigation" makes no attempt to distinguish between the two suggests that they know the "payments" they're talking about are probably the former, but they want us to think of the latter.

For which. You’re writing, not speaking.

Aside from that, what is your point? You’re the one who brought up trump. This tread is about Biden. Is it possible for you to distinguish between the two.

Why do you care? Come on, Skippy. You claim you start these conversations because you want to discuss the issues and get mad when everybody piles on you because they say you're stupid. Well, here's your chance. I've plopped out an article that questions the amount of money the Bidens have made, and instead of discussing that, you just make some snarky Trump-related comment and move on.

Do you want a discussion or not? Because that article, even though it's an opinion column (which I'm not fond of at all), and is published by a paper owned by a billionaire who hates Trump, does have the temerity to raise the issue that some of the Biden's got paid for doing basically nothing. Don't you think that's worth discussing? And, let's say, just for the sake of argument, that the Bidens have gotten money from suspect sources. Okay, let me add a further twist to you: Everything that the Bidens' did was legal. Not that it was "right and proper" that they get the money, just that it wasn't illegal for them to do so.

What then? Would you agree that the laws need to be changed so that nobody else can do it? Would you want other government officials held to those some rules? Like members of Congress? And the Supreme Court? Why or why not?

That's a discussion on the subject. Not just calling someone "shitty" and saying, "Fucker needs to be in jail" and then moving on. Because I'm willing to bet that there's sleazy stuff in Biden's background. You don't get to be almost 80 and POTUS without it. But you know what, I'm willing to bet that all of it was legal, or if it did violate the laws, the maximum penalty anyone could hope to get is a fine that Biden can easily afford to pay. Now, that doesn't mean that I'm "okay" with it, I absolutely think that there should be laws to prevent someone from enriching themselves from their political office.
Don't you? Don't you want to talk about that? Don't you want to discuss an issue where we can both agree (I would hope) on the premise that politicians can't get rich simply because they're a politician? And that we need to change the laws so that this can't happen? Don't you want to discuss that?

You know, not only what's going on and what's wrong, but how to fix it. And the nice thing about us being pathetic wankers with nothing better to do than slander one another anonymously and exchange porn, is that we can talk about things that are important to the subject, but also look at implications of any proposed solution that politicians wouldn't think of. After all, their goal is almost always to construct a bill that looks like it is going to solve a particular problem, and not really worrying about if it will solve the problem. We can do that, though. We can say, "Well, if you prohibited them from doing this, it'll keep them from giving kickbacks to people." And then someone else can say, "Well, yes, it creates this problem over here." Then, unlike a politician, instead of saying, "Oh, we'll worry about that later." or "Of course, that's the point. We can look like we're doing a good thing, while setting it up so that we can make boatloads of more money, and since the media doesn't investigate, nobody's going to know anything." We can say, "You're right. Let's do this thing as well to solve that."

You want to have a discussion, here's your chance. Give us your thoughts. Is the guy right? Is he wrong? Is it corruption? Or is it perfectly legal stuff that perhaps shouldn't be illegal? Or is it something else? What do you think?

Just after graduation from college as a lawyer Hunter received a lucrative consulting position from MBNA. Joe, as a senator, worked with the banking industry making historic deregulation and pro-banking policy that got him the nickname of the senator from MBNA. 2 years later he dropped that position to work for the Clinton administration in the department of commerce while sloppy joe started his lobbying firm. From there Hunter worked in other companies at high levels getting large sums of money.

Maybe I am wrong and hunter is a super lawyer type genius who deserves to have skipped to the top because of his talents. Or maybe he is getting paid a large amount more than anyone else as a favor to his father who used his son as a lobbying connection between the banks and the clinton administration.

No lawyer fresh out of school just gets tossed these high paying and influential positions for nothing. This is all while Joe was doing great things for MBNA and lobbying the clinton administration and democrats.

Hunter has always marketed himself as a liason between him and his father. That is the service he provided because there is no way he was that good of a lawyer. His only service was as a connection to his dad. If you think he was hired fresh out of law school with no experience because of superior law skills you are as gullible as any person who thinks Jarad, Ivanka, Don Jr., and orange cheeto have merit and skill that got them where they were today.

Sometimes a bribe comes in a paycheck far above what you deserve.

Does it? What in your opinion are they?

It seems like it should not be too difficult to get to the answer of "Why did the various Bidens get paid as much as they did, in the manner in which they did?" if you have subpoena power and the desire to get to the truth.

If you just want to say "Hey, there's something shady going on there and maybe one day we'll get to the bottom of it" or go on screeds about the Biden crime family, it's easier to just imply wrongdoing without trying to subpoena either the people from Burisma or Hunter Biden or whoever and get them to answer under oath what services were provided and why, and to show how/if it compared to the market rate.

Here's a good one from the article:
I mean, come on, dude expected something in return for that. I don't know what. Maybe it was something to do with Joe, or perhaps it had something to do with one of the companies Hunter happened to sit on the board.

Given how many members of Congress seem to have "magically" gotten insanely rich once taking office, I can see why lots of folks, regardless of party, really don't want to poke this bear all that much. In fact, they might go so far as to construct some kind of stuffed animal that they claimed was a bear, and then proceed to poke it, without ever coming anywhere near a real bear.

So if everyone is corrupt then we do nothing about it? This sort of stupidity is why we have two parties of corrupt assholes because both sides just accept it and never demand better.

This is why democracy fails. The majority of people love their shitburger and will never give it up.

    Oh yeah? Gotta link?

I think you are confusing the Comer ‘whistleblowers’ with the three dudes on Kash Patel’s payroll that spoke to Gym Jordan (who won’t share what they said in violation of House rules).

You do realize they are separate committees yes?

But maybe you are smarter than I give you credit for and some of Comer’s ‘whistleblowers’ miraculously were found and can actually share their ‘evidence’.

This is pissing me off. Grassley went on the senate floor claiming it was real and then other republicans keep repeating it as it were real, but can’t produce the audio. The Hunter Biden laptop had more validity to it so put up or shut up. This doesn’t excuse the FBI stonewalling congress though and you’d think certain people here would be concerned about that aspect, but they don’t care because it’s their team, so nothing to see here.

No, you idiot. The FBI’s behavior and this recording are two separate issues.

If I tell everyone here that I know you’ve got nuclear secrets in your house, and people demand that you turn them over, what are you going to do? You can’t turnover what you don’t have, and anyone who’s stupid enough to think that you have nuclear secrets isn’t going to believe you when you say you don’t have them.

None of us here thought that the recording was real, so we didn’t give a shit about the response, because we knew that the FBI had nothing to turnover.

For people who think the above post is funny or deserves a facepalm, explain yourself. Do you believe in checks and balances or not? Should the FBI have to answer to congress, yes or no? Do you believe the FBI is trustworthy, yes or no? Do they have a history of deception, yes or no?
