Yo! Adrian! Add Rocky on the pile! https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/13/entertainment/sylvester-stallone-investigation/index.html
Stand up comic and Nerdist founder Chris Hardwick: https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/06...ong-term-emotional-and-sexual-abuse-in-essay/
He's denying it, but Nerdist has still washed their hands and feet of him. That's the shitty part, whether you're guilty or not, you become radioactive. https://www.cbr.com/chris-hardwick-response-allegations/
Doesn't he go without saying? He's been Hollywood's gropy great-uncle for as long as I've known of his existance
This all came out years ago, but the conservatives are desperately trying to make something of it now. The Hardwick stuff is tough. It sounds like he was a very demanding and shitty partner, and she refused to assert herself until it was far too late. But this was in the context of a long-term relationship. Doesn't any partner have the right to say "this is what I need or it's not going to work?"
I need someone from CanuckForge to summarize for me to determine if Trudeau needs to go onto the pile :?
He apparently groped a reporter at a music festival in 2000, then apologized the next day. She accepted the apology and considers it over. No threats, no cover-up, no violence, she wasn't his employee, and he wasn't a politician or anyone influential back then. I'd say no, but obviously his political opponents say yes.
Just the accusation is enough to end a career. If the media were a single entity, I'd say they shouldn't report any accusation unless it's been substantiated by investigation and/or accompanied by an arrest/formal charges. I don't know about Hardwick or Trudeau or anyone else accused, but I know that, sooner or later, innocent people will be destroyed by this. The media should reflect on the balance between the public's right to know and the individual's right to a fair hearing and due process before punishments are imposed.
It's a tough call, because the opposite extreme is what made Cosby and Weinstein invincible for decades.
Yes, though I'd argue that our legal thresholds for criminal activity have changed, so it's less likely that new Cosbys or Weinsteins will be able to get away without legal repercussions going forward. Cosby and Weinstein got away with so much for so long because, at least on some level, their social environment was either affirming ("everyone knows there's always been a casting couch") or indifferent ("these women should've known what they were getting into") about their behavior. That's changed, I think. All I'm wishing for--and it's wishing because I don't think it's going to happen--is that the media substantiate the allegations before it publicizes them. If an innocent person gets totally destroyed by some allegation, there is no recourse or restitution for them. Consider Hardwick for a moment. He's lost jobs and his career has taken a devastating hit. As you said, he's radioactive. No one's going to touch him. Now consider for the sake of argument that he's innocent of any wrong-doing, and that the allegations against him never amount to anything and slowly fade away. Is the media ever going to have headlines that say "HARDWICK EXONERATED?" Is he going to get his gigs back? Does his accuser or the media compensate him the lost income? No. The best that he could hope for is that people slowly forget about it, and he's able to eventually rebuild a career. He's been about as thoroughly punished as someone could be--absent formal charges or a civil suit--but he's had no due process whatsoever.
How about you stop repeating this lie? Aziz Ansari is fine. George Takei was fine even before being exonerated. Morgan Freeman is fine. Sylvester Stallone is fine. Casey Affleck is fine. Mel Gibson is in the middle of a comeback. Emile Hersch is doing better than ever. https://www.thedailybeast.com/emile...ve-hes-now-starring-in-the-new-tarantino-film So stop lying.
