    Yes.

    Still anti-gun control though.

Also hates LGBTQ, wants to see the Affordable Care Act destroyed, a climate change denier, and pro war on drugs.

    You know, a Republican.

I just voted for Jim Jordan for Speaker on a private ballot in conference, and I will be voting for Jim Jordan on the House floor.

I like Steve Scalise, and I like him so much that I want to see him defeat cancer more than sacrifice his health in the most difficult position in Congress.

I lost my father to cancer and it’s a very serious battle.

We need a Speaker who is able to put their full efforts into defeating the communist democrats and save America.

We must stop funding foreign wars - Ukraine.

We must stop the weaponized government and hold them accountable.

    We must secure our border.

    IF.

    IFFFFFFFF….

IF you believe MTG that means we are are down to three other nos to have to move to another ballot.

Rep. Mike Rogers leaves the meeting unhappy, says eight Republican “traitors” (he used the word four times) have “paralyzed” the House by removing McCarthy. He tells me Scalise has the same problems and GOP may NEVER get 217 votes for a Speaker. He says Dems must help.

No. Way. Republicans are being forced to compromise. That’s not going to go over well with their base.

Hakeen Jeffries has stated he has approached the Republicans about helping them elect a speaker and that one of his requests was to remove the current mechanism that allows a single member to be able to call for a vote on the Speaker's status.

There are also some uncorroborated reports that part of the price there will be to expel some of the worst members of the Freedom Caucus. Clearly there are Republicans now that would be on board with that.

If they want Democrats' help, it seems like they'll have to offer something better than "a candidate who will be just as much of an obstructionist and stand in the way of governing just as much as Jim Jordan, but who won't be quite as big an asshole while doing it."

Depends on if they are talking about expelling from committees, from caucus or from House (which would require 2/3rds and I don’t see happening).

Wasn't a complete standstill what they wanted anyway?

Oh yeah, MIC is mad because they want the aid package for Isreal. This is what you get when you back crazy traitors with your MIC blood money. Should have thought of that before letting the repugs go full retard.

Isreal will get their money, but the repugs will need to put a few of the rabid dogs down. Just take the trump loonies out of your party and send them to the libertarians where they belong. Or better yet have a repug baseball game and put Jim, MTG, Laured, Lake, Trump, Greham, Cruz, and a few others on one team, and have them play the faux news and podcast repugs. Then ooopsie Hamas blew up the baseball field because we did a little Bush with the saudis.

All of a sudden congress workd like it used to, you eliminate the trump supporting media, and Isreal gets their aid package. If you need to blame it on someone just make all the evidence point to sleepy joe as he will probably pass within the decade or be completely taken by elderly dementia within a couple years. You can just put him in a room and feed him some pudding while he tells everyone how he beat up that cornflake guy and was president of cuba.

Well everyone on the left who had a clear eyed view of the last 8/18/30/more years fully expected a complete clownshow, and those who still defend the noble Republican Party were obliged to assume their party was capable of basic governance.

And we see who called it correctly.

Jim Jordan has been in Congress for 16 years and the number of bills he has sponsored which became law is zero. The number of bills he has sponsored which passed the House is also zero. He had one resolution pass, to create the "Deep State" subcommittee. In 16 years...

One House Republican aide tells me he’s confident Jim Jordan will get elected speaker.

    Why?

“The people opposing him are moderates. Either he gets it or the moderates for the first time ever grow a spine,” the aide says.

It’d be funnier if it didn’t mean the Congress of the world’s essential nation is paralyzed while Republicans come to the conclusion that not only can they not govern the country but they can’t even govern themselves.

At this point I think there is >50% chance that Dems will have to step in.

While the Dems have shown good discipline only saying Jeffries is their candidate for speaker and they welcome anyone to join them (and honestly no one has gotten more votes than him so far) word is that a ‘moderate’ R (sad that ‘believes elections matter’ is now pretty much the only requirement to be a moderate) and loosening the rules around discharge petitions/bringing bipartisan bills to the floor is apparently what they will accept.

Can we talk about the media’s soft bigotry of low expectations for a moment?

Why does every news headline about R disfunction freezing governance include some version ‘Dems STILL won’t vote for an Insurrectionist’?!?!

Why are Dems supposed to be the only adults in the room? There are what, 223 Republicans? They are the majority party right? Why can’t THEY elect their own Speaker? Why are Dems supposed to bail them out from their own stupidity?!?!

Someone said that one of the nice things about Bluesky is that the media isn’t paying attention so it like walking around in your house/apartment naked.

Jake Tapper is totally enjoying it, LOL. How does this dude have a family, churn out six shows a week and a novel every two years?!?!?

it is kind of crazy that any five Republican reps could elect a speaker among themselves, ask what (likely modest concessions) Dems want, and then get any minor policy they want in return *and* be lauded across the country, yet this isn't even considered an option in the political press
