I’m going to qualify it a bit.... Zack Snyder makes the absolute best action sequences. Some of the narrative issues in his movies are problematic and I have enjoyed other comic book movies more than his, but his movies are the “prettiest” superhero movies... By far. I hope that makes sense.
FINALLY saw this the other day. Both enjoyed and despised it. The four hour running time gives some nice, and badly needed, backstory to some of the characters. However, the whole New Gods crew still feels like a "pulled out of our ass" bit just to have a Thanos in the movie. The DCU did not spend several years building up its cast the way the MCU did and even the Snyder Cut feels too rushed and thrown together. Steppenwolf's armor is too fussy-looking and he just never seems like a Big Bad. Also, the tone is way too dark for DC characters. Wonder Woman kills a whole bunch of dudes in her introductory sequence. Batman is too quick to tell everyone he's Bruce Wayne, so when Deathstroke shows up at the end so that Luthor can tell him Batman is Bruce Wayne, I was left questioning how Slade didn't already know that. Still really dislike the casting for the Flash here. The actor from the CW TV show would have been a far superior choice. Mashing this together with the return of Superman worked as far as a hook to pull the team together, but was a poor choice from a lore and storytelling perspective. Nice to see J'onn J'onzz show up. Overall the DCU remains a poor second to the MCU in terms of moviemaking.
I think he knew they were resurrecting Supes and figured they'd need someone to ground him, had Lois not appeared they'd have been Splatman, The Flush, Wonder Who That Stain Was and Aquamangled.
And there's another Snyder-verse mystery that's been solved. Batman- Superman was a beacon, why aren't you? Wonder Woman- Well....see...I raped a guy in the 80's and was laying low for statute of limitations. Batman-.....wow......wow...
Wonder Woman: Oh, c'mon, Bruce. We know about you and those teenage "sidekicks"... Flash: Wait, what?!
'Cause all these cameos are fucking kewl and the fans will eat it up! Didya see the Green Lantern Corps. scene? Blink and you'll miss it! Fucking kewl! (Not making fun of you, Forbin, but the shit show that was the Snyder Cut.)
I can fanwank that J'onn was wanting to keep tabs on Lois and for some reason thought the particular route he took made the most sense. I am more annoyed by the implication that he was around at least since the beginning of this movie (and possibly dating back to Man of Steel) and did fuck all to help out against at least Steppenwolf even though he could obviously have helped.
Finally got around to watching the Snyder JL cut I thought it was really good, like a million times better than the initial release It's definitely not the best superhero movie out there but within the DC universe it ranks pretty high for me, maybe top 3. Which isn't saying all that much I guess That last scene in the future with the Joker was really good. Made me think how much of a shame it is that this whole DC universe has basically been a disaster and we probably won't see that explored further
Not just "kills," but "kills the f**k out of." I really liked the Snyder Cut, but it isn't worlds better than the theatrical release (which has some appeal of its own). It's good to see Snyder's vision, though.
Bought it, seen it, loved it. Loved the shit out of it. Oh, fuck YEAH it is!!!!!!!! Whedon cut is dead to me. Now that I have the comparison, Whedon cut makes me fucking angry now.
Going back through.... Nope, it's actually quite spectacular. Warners coughed up every cent they needed. Fuck yeah we do. Letos's scene was actually pretty fucking groovy. Yep. I loved Man Of Steel, and BVS (ultimate cut), so this delivered the goods for me. Junkie XL really killed it. I don't miss the Elfman score at all. No, it's pretty much over for Whedon cut. And Whedon. There'll be no debates.
YMMV. I do think the Snyder Cut is better and a fuller experience, but there were a few things in the theatrical cut I liked better. And there are a few things in the Snyder Cut--pretty much everything involving Martian Manhunter--that I really dislike. I definitely would prefer to see a sequel to the Snyder Cut. That promises an epic film that, unfortunately, we're never going to see.
Reposting my review. This film mostly sucked, regardless of who cut it, because it was flawed from the start. There will be no debates.
I finally watched this, and it needs some help. It is not bad, but it does need to at least be two movies with some more info. Seriously, what the fuck happens with cyborg? Why does he join up? I know what the story says, but it really does not show why he bothers. We could have had a set up for that where we find out more about cyborg in general. It just does not seem like a misanthropic introvert would be so easy to get on board. We could have really used a decent movie somewhere in there. Maybe I missed it. Why is superman just outright fighting people? I thought purity and a desire not to kill everyone was integral to his personality? I get he has memory loss, but he seems to still have his instincts intact. Are his real motivations just to kill everyone who speaks to him, and he just learned not to do that from his mommy? That whole scene made no fucking sense. Someone needs to hire a fucking woman over at DC. WW goes to get a burning spear and wander through some old dirty ruins in a expensive white suit and white stiletto heels? Are you fucking kidding me? I do not care how rich and nimble a woman is she is not wearing thousands of dollars worth of white expensive clothing into a dirty old cave. Especially if she can transform into her shiny battle outfit. I do not give a fuck how good she is in spiky heels. Do you know what happens when you step into a crack with the heel? First off you rip up the heel, and then you fall over in your white clothing. Do you get what happens after you pick up a burned old arrow? yes, black hand prints all over your white dress. How hard is it to hire one woman to look at that and say Stupid man, no woman would ever do that when she has employees.
No, he wasn't. Yes, it was interesting to see him try to fuck with benman's head. But how does it fuck with benman's head when there is no Robin? He did what to who? Unless you are familiar with some comic book plot where he would be guilty for robin's demise the scene makes no sense. Plus, waiting the whole movie to see the joker play a part, and then it is just some afterthought dream which was about a villain we never fucking saw, and do not even know exists yet? It might have been good had it had any context to the universe at all. Oh, it is just some spank fodder for the fanbois with the worst ever joker trying to redeem himself by taking out his silly grills and not showing him being a wife beater. I never really liked the guy who ruined his own Buffy idea. The movie was soooo much better. All I can say is I would have appreciated this in multiple more developed movies with a few climaxes and some more interraction between the members of the team. I did enjoy the moments with Benman and wonder woman. WW and the amazons did have some pretty kick ass scenes. WW does much better in movies that are not hers. Maybe Kirk ruins her movies?
So I finally got around to seeing this and it's definitely an improvement on Joss Wheadon's version. I really wish we could get a sequel with Darkseid attacking earth. I would love to see more Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern.
How it should have ended? Doc Brown builds a time machine, goes back ten years and makes sure this film never gets made in the first place. The End.
The online campaign was boosted by bots. It was a small percentage, and the flick still got good reviews, ratings, and sales. If it was half bots, and then the flick flopped, it'd be a bigger story. But, I drop it here for interest. https://www.darkhorizons.com/report-snydercut-boosted-by-bot-accounts/
The studio regrets releasing the film. https://www.cbr.com/warner-bros-reg...ox-CBR&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1675455578
Screw 'em. Fox fired Alan Ladd even after he brought them Star Wars. New Line fired Bob Shaye even though he created the place, and brought them Lord Of The Rings. Execs are fucking ingrates.
But even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Not only should Warner Bros. not have released the Snyder cut, they should have taken all the wasted money on producing it and used it for something good instead... like hunting down every existing copy of Justice League and destroying it. And they could have put a hit out on Zack Snyder to boot. Just to be sure.
