Yes, there are zero examples anywhere of intelligent hard working people who like the confederate flag. On the way home tonight I'll knock on the door of everyone displaying one in their yard I'll bet they are too stupid to work the doorknob to engage me in conversation. Hell I might have to remind them to breath.

It's been 24 pages since I asked, repeatedly, for someone to name one (1) positive message associated with that flag. So far, the most strident defense has been "it means absolutely nothing". (In which case, of course, there is no justification for spending tax money on flying it over government buildings.)

Can you name one such message?

Honestly, the dead idiot and his passenger probably felt threatened by something relatively non-threatening and the idiot reacted by driving his car off the road without actual provocation.

But it's a moot point - the opposition was silenced and that's all that matters.

I posted a video in another thread of some of those "intelligent, hard working people". That was the video where the rednecks put Confederate flags on their pick up trucks and then drove through the black part of town blocking traffic and honking their horns. Gee, why did they pick the black part of town to drive through? It reminds me of the Orange Men always trying to march through the Catholic parts of Belfast.

Of course, the crowning part of that video was when Old Fellow's "intelligent, hard working people" still had a car wreck even though they were driving 10 mph. You can't fix stupid.

The positive message, which they don't want to talk about openly, is that it reminds them of a happy time when white men ran everything, white women were chattel with no rights, black people were property, and natives where all either expelled or killed on sight. Those happy times.

It is very analogous to the Nazi flag in terms of racial policies.

Yes I suck at statistics. Here is an article explaining how blacks are 7-10 times more likely to commit homicide (per capita basis) than whites. I'm not sure what percentage that would be, but you're smart so maybe you can help me out! I'm sure these statistics are anecdotal.

From the very first sentence, that article violates the most basic rules of statistical analysis. It neither proves what you think it says, nor what it thinks it says.

From the point of view of those who defend it for legitimately historically based assumptions (not saying I buy this, but there are those who sincerely believe it that I don't perceive as motivated by race) it would symbolize the resilient underdog who took on the heavily favored invaders and defended their homes. Again, not saying that's the actual historical reality in every detail, but that's the positive ideal THEY associate with it.

I knew somebody smarter than me (hell, smarter than the writer of the article!) would set me straight. Here's another brain buster, a hypothetical situation: A small city is 50 percent black and 50 percent white. There are 20 homicides in any given year. 16 of those are committed by blacks, with black victims most of the time. 4 homicides are committed by whites with white victims. The next year there are 15 homicides (good news, the murder rate is going down!) with 12 committed by blacks, the rest by whites. The next year there are 22 homicides, 18 by blacks and 4 by whites. I think you get the gist of it. So however these rates/percentages play out they are quite typical.

Typical for what? Your imagined town? Quite possibly; it's your imagination. Those numbers are not at all typical for the real current USA, however, according to all statistics I have seen, including those posted by you.

You are insisting that the numbers say something very different to what they actually say, and whenever that is pointed out, you retreat to your assumed lack of understanding. But you seem unwilling to learn that not only your maths, but also your assumptions of what the math says, are wrong.

You're wrong about the facts. Also being admittedly wrong about statistics will not magically make you right about the facts.

So homicide rates (as per percentage of the population for the two demographics) are about the same for blacks and whites? Hmm......that contradicts every single study ever done (by sane people with no political agenda) within the past few decades. So when the newspaper has reports of local homicides it's an equal number of white faces as black over a one year period? Well, other than my imagined example of course, or any town or city I've ever lived in, or the nation as a whole of course. But hey, you're the alleged smart one so you must correct by default.

Sorry your lib brain is on another frequency and incapable of accepting facts. I've said about all I can say on the subject - you see what you want to see anyway. So this is my consession speech: garamet is right, every demographic group commits homicide at the exact same rate in the US. For every black homicide there is a white and asian homicide - maybe they were all buried on the back page of every paper. Or shown at the very end of every newscast just to throw a monkey wrench into it. So yes garamet you are the smartest person in the room by far and all your viewpoints match those of god him(her)self in their infinite perfection.

Sorry, you have some fantasy in your mind about a law of large numbers, which you hope will somehow reflect your worldview, while you don't understand how it works. But again, just because you don't understand how it works doesn't magically turn it into something that would support your ideas if you did.

Here's a correct statement: In the US, the likelihood of a black person directly killing a black person is greater than that of a white person directly killing a white person. And the likelihood of a black person killing any other person directly is also greater than the likelihood of a white person doing the same.

But if you think that that in any way translates into what you described as your imaginary town, or your previous statements in this thread about the real USA, then you don't understand what either of those two statements mean.

I already admitted defeat - you have proved through your superior reasoning ability than any statistics (compiled by anybody no matter how qualified) that would indicate blacks are much more likely (by a significant factor) to commit homicide are wrong and don't toe the party line of tolerance and cultural diversity and etc.etc. Now take your shiny trophy and take it home to show mommy already.

You haven't shown any statistics. You're just repeating your opinion. Maybe you need to start with some basic vocabulary.
