So this, if you aren't interested in the thread + links, appears to be: an Internet artist creates an artwork, and also creates a bitcoinish token (NFT) associated with it. The artist then sells the token to someone via the power of blockchain, providing "proof" that the buyer "owns" that artwork, no matter how others may screenshot or download the original. Effectively bragging rights I guess. The problem is that making the transaction with e.g. Ethereum uses tons of energy just like mining infamously would, so it's a really irresponsible way for artists to do business.
