It's fucking absurd that one lone senator or congressman should be able to block anything singlehandedly. That's so anti-democratic I can't believe it's even a thing.

Agreed. I think it's far worse than just not giving a shit about military readiness to make a political hey for his base.

It's about ensuring that if Trump is re-elected, all of those 'acting' positions filled by Biden can immediately be replaced with acting officers loyal to Trump.

If you'll recall, when asked about what happens if the people revolt against Trump's plan to take power, the response by one of his senior advisors was 'that's what the Insurrection Act is for.'

Tuberville is one of the guys Trump was on the phone with during Jan 6th.

We aren't done with the potential for a fascist takeover.

It is pretty clear at this point the republican party is plotting to take over the US government. I think the US needs to recognize they have become the problem and they are inside the house.

Chucky snuck through everything below General and Flag Officers.

    https://x.com/acyn/status/1708292292627337538

Long term this most important. No one waiting to become a General or get another star is likely to get out over it but some Captain or Major in a high demand field might get fed up and bounce.

What is it with football coaches being fascists?
Hell, what is it with football being all militaristic?
Didn't always used to be. You go far enough back in old movies, it used to be innocent and goofy, like basketball.
Sometime post WWII, football gets all angry and drill sergeant-y, and that attracts the Nazis.

Because up until WWII, people often died playing it, so they had to keep it “fun” in popular culture as Teddy Roosevelt had once threatened to ban the sport due to the number of player deaths in a single season. That’s how high a body count the sport had.

As pads and safety gear became mandatory, the sport got increasingly dangerous in new ways. You also saw a cultural shift in Americans after beating the Nazis and thinking that we are all superheroes.

Sporting competitions have always been de facto substitutes for military conflict. Makes sense that coaching jobs would attract "armchair general" types that dream of sending young men into battle while being too cowardly to ever enlist themselves, especially in America where football is treated like a religion. It's the closest men like that will ever get to being the warrior priests they imagine themselves to be. :async:

Tuby was a college football coach and that fandom can be pretty cult-like.

I often wonder how many school shooters were inspired to their evil by their treatment from the football team people.

Yeah, Dayton wasn't wrong about the possibility of a successful coaching career elevating someone like him to some sort of political office. It's happened to worse people than him. :clyde:

    Pretty close to never.
My gut says flat out never, but there might be one somewhere.
The "liberal" media loves that narrative, and it started with Columbine, but the Columbine killers weren't bullied, they were bullies.
And they weren't social outcasts, or shrinking violets, they were loudmouths with friends and girlfriends.
They did run afoul of the football kids a couple times, by they weren't innocent victims, they started shit.

Republican senators are naming off officers for promotion and that sack of shit is objecting to every single one.

When you're so vile and stupid that you make Ted Cruz look good in comparison, you should probably rethink your life choices. :jayzus:
