http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-01-17-katrina-united-nations_N.htm We haven't given Katrina victims the proper help yet? Fuck that. We've been sinking money into the bottomless pit that is Katrina victim relief for years now, giving those people countless opportunities to pull themselves back up to something approaching self-sufficiency (and in the process importing to my beloved Houston one hell of a crime problem). Plenty of Katrina survivors have taken advantage of that to start anew. Any Katrina survivor who hasn't and is still waiting to 'restore their life' isn't in the position they're in through any fault of the government, they're where they are because of an expectation that surviving a hurricane has earned them a free ride for life.
Let's hope darkstryke is never the victim of a natural or other disaster. Actually, let's hope that he is.
That's nice. Good thing the UN is irrelevant and nobody really gives a shit what they think. But it would be amusing to see how some of those high-handed member nations would handle a natural disaster on the same scale in their little third world shit holes.
I'd love to get my hands on some of those $2000 debit cards that FEMA was handing out like candy after Katrina.
Then might I suggest the UN come here to America to fix the problem. They can rent hotels/homes near New Orleans and pump millions into the economy vis restaurants, the hotels, entertainment, etc. while they do their work. If they perform at their usual snail's pace, they will be here several years at least.
No, you stupid whores, America is great because of independance, not because of government handouts. Government handouts are why we are weakening.
Nobody who's opinion matters. The UN is a den of corruption and audacious hypocrisy on a level surpassing even the US government. That, combined with their complete impotence in the area of policy enforcement makes them irrelevant in my mind. And [-]some[/-] [-]many[/-] most of those individual neighbors need to clean up their own houses before they go pointing fingers at ours.
While I am no fan of Bush's handling of the Katrina incident, I am little uncomfortable of this statement from the UN... it seems as if they are trying to dictate to the US on it's internal policies... That's for us to decide... not an outsider. The US is the most generous nation on Earth when it comes to disaster aid....I'm curious as to the statement this guy made after the 2004 tsunami regarding that government's aid for it's people...?
Or, even better, "The Americans are at fault for not saving us quickly enough or spending enough money on it."
Between the illegal immigrants from the south and the Katrinites from the east, I feel more sympathy for Texas than New Orleans.
It's not just Texas but a lot of the border states. What got flushed out of New Orleans wasn't the cream of the crop.
You didn't assert any "facts". You just gave some very broad opinions. Although it's certainly factually wrong to say that nobody cares about the UN, as I've pointed out.
OK, you've refuted my obvious fucking hyperbole. Good job. Now let's talk about the blatant hypocrisy, corruption, and toothless capacity for "enforcement".
I don't deny that those things exist to a greater or lesser extent. I do deny that they're as systemic and widespread as you would like to believe. Of course the root of much of this is that since the UN failed to give the thumbs up to the United States' Iraq adventurism, the US establishment (including the media) has been in overdrive trying to discredit it.
Are you confusing the multi agency that is the UN with the security council? Oh and if the security council is 'toothless' its the fault of the member states, the SC only has power through its member states, if you want it to do something that requires power, you need to give it that power
er.... wrong answer. relatively speaking, the us gives a lot less than others to other countries as "charity". Norway, Luxembourg and Denmark give the largest proportion of their gdp (0.9%), whilst only Italy gives a lower amount than the US (0.2%)
They've got a bitchin' food for oil program. There's a good bit of oil in that region, no? I'm sure it will be a great deal...
