Didn't we already have this story?

I think last time I said the skipper of that Chinese boat should have mooned the Kitty Hawk and her crew.

Also either I or someone else said they should get a case of whiskey for having the balls to sneak in like that.

The USN better re-emphasize ASW. I have spoken.

Definitely a wake-up call. I hope those who claim we don't need to keep upgrading and training are paying attention. I also hope our military hasn't developed that pre-WWII mentality that we're safe.

Forgive my ignorance, but are we sure that everything used to detect subs was "switched on" at that moment? Is there a chance the USN isn't doing more to defend it's reputation because it wants the Chinese to think we can't detect their subs?

The consensus over on the TankNet site was that the sub was able to do what it did because the battle group wasn't on its highest alert. Had they been, the sub would've been detected.

Maybe. But when you're down to less than a dozen of these carriers, a coordinated sneak attack would be devastating.

For some reason, I'm finding that more believable. I mean, it's not like the USN is going to come back with detailed technical specifications on all of their anti-sub equipment just to defend a reputation.

"Sure. Yeah. They totally got the drop on us. We're so ashamed. :diablo: "

The sum of real-life knowledge and experience over on that site is staggering. They truly know what they're talking about.

Makes those of us on this board look like junior high kids.

Why is the USA conducting navy excercises in that region anyway? No wonder China is sending ships to find out what the US are up to. Doubt the US would be too pleased if China had such a large fleet playing about near the Cuban coast.

So...a Chinese submarine was spotted near China. How is this a story in any way, shape or form?

I'm going to assume you're serious and actually are asking a sincere question, which makes you only massively stupid and not a bitchy douche.

A chinese sub SURPRISED an American carrier by getting to almost point-blank range. That means close enough to sink it without the carrier getting a shot off. The fact that they can do that to us is a BAD THING.

So the story is that someone didn't do their job? Got it.
