[Link] I told you things were reverting back to nature. The article doesn't mention it, but deer are starting to graze inside city limits. Frankly, I love it. Who needs all that asphalt and such when you got trees and wildlife?
Hmmm......so - the EDUCATED pallet would even know what opossom tastes like? :IMHO!: If you haven't eaten coon you probably haven't eaten possum. BTW I don't know anyone here in Georgia who's eaten either, considering deer are more plentiful and tasty. In our county alone (human population 100,000) we had over 500 deer/car collisions last year.
Like Ron White says, if you want a sure shot hunting deer, slow the bullet down to 55 MPH and then put lights and a horn on it. You'll bag the fucker every time!
At another board I visit, some people were discussing the abandonment of Detroit. It's a city that has literally, gone to the 'coons. Two French photographers recently went and took some pictures. They are amazing in how a city can completely decay if not upkept. I swear, some of those pictures look like they are right out of Fallout 3: http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1882089,00.html Quote from another member:
There was an earlier article a few weeks ago about how artists were moving in droves to Detroit because it's cheap (you can get houses for $100) and because it's pretty "hardcore". Silver lining to every cloud.
Eh, they make better cars. But I did grow up in the city. I've witnessed drive-by shootings and there have been gunfights in the hallways of my high school. I remember one hot summer afternoon... we had all gotten out of school. Two kids got into a fight and they were literally pounding each others heads into the concrete. And there was a policeman sitting in a car across the street not doing a damn thing. Naturally, I couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. Detroit isn't exactly a post-apocalyptic wasteland but it comes close.
You know, the thing that depresses me is that bankruptcy for the big three might remedy this in a decade. I mean, cheap property to allow startups, labor pool waiting, low cost of living. Oh, and you CAN have a handgun carry permit in Detroit.
Who are you gonna hire though? Unless the labor is REALLY unskilled, you can't use anyone there. And if you do have such a job for them, it won't be long before they unionize and run you out of town.
But.... Michigan runs commercials all the time, tellin gme how skilled their labor pool is! That said, I really do think that Michigan would be a great place to run a business if it was just the business and the employees. With the gub'mint and unions... not so much!
I have trapped coons and possum both, they are dirty stinking bastard i will not eat them. A possum is like a big ass rat. here I got two coons at once. this is the coon my snoopdog got in a fight with. We killed his ass, it was a mean bastard and It was not going to live in my garage anymore.
Because there's a large, educated population, the government is largely out of the way, we have vast natural resources, and the cost of living is lowering. Michigan suffers from bad public relations; things are actually on the rise and will be much better in ten, twenty years from now.
The Upper Peninsula is nice.....I visited there when I was a teen. But they et mucho, mucho snow, much like Buffalo NY.
I know. I was just wondering about apostle's reasons - considering how much he seems to dislike the way Michigan does business.
Well, it's more polite than calling you a goddamn liar, but we can go that route instead if you like.
See? Public Relations. Unionization is on the downturn, even here, and it doesn't necessarily mean labor conflict. All Detroit really needs is private investment and a competent city government.
It's actually weird, because while Detroit (and mind you, only parts) are languishing, the suburbs are really well off. Oakland County is the fourth most affluent county in the United States. Oh, how I wish I lived there.
