Ummm.... maybe.... FLIGHT SUITS?!?!?! Considering most will be nerdy office types Air Force dress uniforms would work perfectly well for them. For those who actually get their hands dirty working on rockets and shit they’ll be in Nomex anyway. These folks will never be forward deployed. It makes absolutely ZERO sense for them to have a combat uniform. C’mon man! Use that noggin’ for more than sucking off Great President! Actually consider the question before you run to defend Wise Leader.
I'm not defending anybody - I'm just saying a brand new uniform design isn't necessary. Military members are constantly having to buy different designs of PT, dress and duty uniforms - it's a pain in the ass. It's a big fucking racket. Members get an annual "clothing allowance" to maintain & replace their wearing thin uniforms, but they end up spending it on hundreds of dollars worth of new styles of uniforms all the time. I think the Navy "blue camo" debacle would be a good recent example. Blue is just what you want when a sailor falls overboard and time is of the essence.
There are plenty of existing non-camo uniforms. As I pointed out. You start off with a false dichotomy in order to defend the decision, then follow up with a red herring. “Camo space uniforms are dumb!” “No, spending money on creating new uniforms is dumb!” “There are lots of existing non-camo uniforms that would make much more sense.” “Let me tell you about uniform costs!” Settle down Johnny Cochran...
Or a simple black or grey uniform (both of which exist). Either of those two would make more sense than a woodland style camo.
Holy fuck. I always thought you were a bit... odd. But now I know you're just downright fucking stupid. (That wooshing sound is the larger point completely flying over your head.)
Aren't the nametapes just the patches that are stuck onto the uniform? Anyway, the Space Force will have lots of personnel who don't actually go into space, so camo might indeed be appropriate for them. I thought it funny that the Navy now wears green camo uniforms as well. "Comrades, when we board American ship, you shoot trees you see running around on deck!"
In what scenario will Space Force ever be forward deployed? We gonna be taking over Cosmodromes to launch shit?
Why would they have to be? Plenty of personnel in other services wear camo even though not forward deployed. Imagine a Space Force installation that does radar tracking or that launches space vehicles. Why wouldn't the personnel there dress similarly to personnel on other services' bases? Not forward deployed. Also not forward deployed. Also not forward deployed. Seems that wearing camo is pretty commonplace among the services. See no reason why the Space Force would be different.
So Gate Guard is your use/edge case? First off, you don’t need camo for gate guard. In fact when I was in Gate Guards had to wear reflective belts for safety. Secondly, odds are Space Force won’t have their own bases but instead be colocated in existing facilities. I’ve heard Redstone Arsenal is the front runner. Lastly, for any special duties special uniforms can be authorized. My last deployment we all wore modified BDUs. 90% of the force will be desk jockies where Dress Uniform will be the Duty Uniform. What boots on the ground there will be at launch sites etc will be in Nomex and any astronauts will of course be in flight suits. There is no legit reason for Space Force to need cammo.
You said "forward deployed," suggesting that was the criterion for wearing camo. I gave several examples of non-forward deployed soldiers in camo. That's enough to invalidate your criterion. The practice is commonplace among those who aren't forward deployed. So? The practice is commonplace in the military. And is your argument now shifting to one about need rather than about the common nature of the practice? Perhaps not but it's common practice, so here we are. And it isn't just guards. From a cursory search, I find LOTS of examples if military personnel in camo even when not forward deployed. Maybe, but that's irrelevant to the argument. So? Unless someone has suggested making the dress uniforms camo, that's irrelevant. Lots of people in the Air Force wear dress uniforms daily...and lots wear camo. Same in the Navy, Army, and Marines. "Camo." Then there's no legit reason for a base guard to wear camo. And yet it is commonplace. Stop while you have some dignity left and realize you jumped on a Trump criticism without really thinking it through.
:forehead: Yes, soldiers wear camo for Gate Guard. Because soldiers have camo as their duty uniform (when not in office positions). Because... wait for it... wait.... soldiers deploy to places where camo is needed.
Here's another elite team, ready to be forward-deployed: I give you...your United States Coast Guard.
you mentioned flight suits right off the bat. Flight suits are generally reserved for pilots and crew only, not everyone else in an aviation unit. Since you mentioned flight suits I assume you relate "space force" to aviation. And did I ever say I support creating a "space force" at all? Let me answer that - I have never said that. BTW as for "nerdy office types" the army is considering (at this point) to going to retro WWII style tie wearing type uniforms as the duty uniform for many soldiers in garrison environments (like TRADOC classroom instructors and FORSCOM admin clerks for example). If they have to do some manual labor (a day in the motor pool or the rifle range or whatever) they have to change into their regular camo uniform. My NCO customers are less than impressed with this proposed uniform update.
