I didn't say that there were no legends about bigfoot, I said that the legends the guy who faked the film talked about were fake. There's a difference.

So that begs the question of who put the big foot up his ass in the first place, and why.

that does make sense - humans were around for many generations before ice age critters died out. That's a lot of encounters and a lot of stories.

Yeah I watched some of him on Rogan and he's clearly a nutter.

Ghostbusters to him is a documentary.

Not sure if it's in the Part 1 or Part 2 of his interview on StarTalk where he discusses it. But yeah, he thinks it's a documentary. I also couldn't help but notice that most of the time he speaks like he does in the Bassomatic sketch.

There might tons of alien civilizations out there.

The problem is that we are still taking baby steps... we’ve barely scratched the surface.

The Galaxy is ~100,000 light years across and we’ve maybe observed a very small fraction of that.

And we’ve only been actively searching for the last 60 years or so.

We've only been a technological species for a short time. Our radio signals have only reached a little more than 100 light years into a galaxy that is vastly bigger.

Alien civilizations might be plentiful in our galaxy, but even if they're listening (and have the capability to detect very weak, scattered signals), it could be thousands of years before our signals reach them!

Our only real hope of interaction with aliens is that they're already everywhere in our galaxy, and are aware of our existence but are maintaining a discreet distance. If that's so, they must communicate with highly directional means (perhaps lasers, or something similar) that we're unlikely to detect.

"Or something which is omni directional but outside of our means to detect or understand anyway?" - spot

I've always took that into consideration. A very simplistic analogy would be AM versus FM radio. If all you have is an AM capable radio you could be two blocks away from a transmitter tower blasting the strongest FM signal the FCC allows, but swear nobody is sending any signal. Both Am and FM are very effective, but do not interact with each other. So it's quite possible nobody hears earth and earth hears nobody. No matter how "advanced" a technology is, different technology is often incompatible. There could be a very intelligent civilization that took a different path in the evolution of their various technologies thus we will never be aware of their efforts to communicate, and vice versa.

Full Joe Rogan podcast with the pilot who saw the tic-tac UFO that The NY Times reported on. This is not the same as the gimble video, but both stories were released about the same time and are similar. The gimble video is more recent, this incident happened in 2004. For those who are interested, here it is and it isn’t Dan Akroyd being all crazy.

Maybe. I don't know how much of reality science has yet to uncover, so I can't state with absolute certainty that things like, say, warp drive with a 9 volt battery are impossible.

But, based on our understanding of energy, it would be wasteful to send an omnidirectional signal if a directed one would do. No matter how the signal is conveyed, it's going to entail transferring energy from place to place (over interstellar distances!), and there's little point in expending energy to send a signal somewhere that doesn't have a(n intended) recipient.

Look, I don't know how to make it any simpler for you: Aliens are not visiting Earth, and the government isn't covering this up. If that was what was happening, an immense number of things would be different. For starters, you'd see a massive wave of government officials trying to discredit guys like him. They'd be on all the news outlets trying to get ahead of the story, just like they do whenever there's a scandal in Washington. They're not. We're also not spending any more on NASA than we were during the Apollo era (when you adjust for inflation). If there were aliens, the government would be doing those things. To believe otherwise is foolishness.

Yes, yes, yes, I know, I know, you're certain that the aliens are real and the government's covering it all up, but nobody has anything to show for it except for some crappy video and claims about having things shoved up their ass. And even if all aliens did was just to zip by the Earth, wave at some yokel in a cow pasture, and leave, we'd have more than what we do. This, I can actually prove, BTW.

Again, I point you to Unconventional Flying Objects by Paul Hill. He was a NASA engineer who took the sightings at face value and tried to figure out how the technology described could have worked. This wasn't simply limited to doing mathematical formulas on paper, he actually built things. (And yes, they did work in some cases.) Yet none of that was enough to get the government to invest serious money into furthering his research. Why? Because there's no proof that UFOs are alien craft scoping us out.

And forget about the idea of "black budgets" hiding what the money's being used for, if you know what you're doing, you can figure out exactly what it's going for just by digging through the reports available to the general public. One of the model companies, I think it was Revell, came out with a model of one of the stealth planes (before the government ever admitted they had such a thing) that very closely matched what the plane looked like. They did this by digging through the various government reports of expenditures, figuring out what they were paying for and extrapolating what the design would look like based on that information. If there was something that the government was spending vast sums of money on in a black budget, like alien technology, somebody would have figured it out by now and made this public. Yet, none of the folks who are involved with UFO research have done anything like this.

Finally, if the US government has somehow managed to keep aliens secret for decades, who the fuck do you think is actually going to provide proof of this? Someone working for the government? If so, why haven't they come forward before now? A politician? If this is the one secret that the government has successfully managed to cover up for so long, what makes you think that a politician will be able to reveal it, no matter what office they hold? (Assuming, of course, they were ever allowed to win office to begin with.)

Turn off Coast-to-Coast AM, Joe Rogan, and the others peddling this nonsense, and pick up some books by folks who understand science and technology.

Or, watch the original Connections series which shows how seemingly unrelated things spur technological growth and change. One of the episodes shows how the development of the plow in ancient Egypt is what led directly to the development of nuclear weapons in WWII. Here's the first episode on YouTube.

I had in mind something along the lines of coded manipulations of a stars' or pulsars' emissions, or ripples in gravitational waves or....something which is beyond our means but to an advanced civilisation might well be the most effective means to propagate information without the primitives having the slightest idea.

Of course all of this falls foul of c, but anything which did not would by definition be beyond our science to detect anyway.

    This President does. He's MJ-04.

    I'm MJ-11, by the way.

Besides, this "Classified" stuff all silly nonsense anyway. I'm always like, "why don't we let everyone see this? It's all just [REDACTED] and no one [REDACTED] about [REDACTED] when they hear about it" and the rest of the Majestic 12 is like "[REDACTED], punk."

This sounds like something you should post to your girlfriend @Lilac over on TK before your parents shut off the Wifi to make you go to sleep. Oh, and could you two get together for a few more callout threads on me. It is cute and my ego likes it. Plus you have not made a callout thread on me in months and I am beginning to think you don't care anymore.
