My mom has been the American Heart coordinator/head instructor for the hospital's ACLS and BTLS programs. She feels the same way. Of course, she's also pissed at them because ACLS and BTLS have gotten so easy. 20 years ago, when it was still new, she hated ACLS. She said it was every bit as hard as passing Boards. But, she constantly bitches about how easy it is now. How people that would have failed totally five years ago are now making Instructor Potential.
I wholeheartedly agree. When I first got my RN degree, ACLS was your worst nightmare. They ran you through the wringer, but you came out of it ready to work a Code Blue. A few years ago they turned it into ACLS For Dummies and they aren't teaching shit. It's gone from teaching you how to handle a code to just simply giving you the certification for sitting through their little course. There's a huge difference between "certified" and "qualified".
I've changed a few spare tires and jumpstarted the cars of a few damsels in distress, but no boyfriend beatdowns yet. Yet.
