That is part of the problem is that when you have a cop acting badly the other ones cover for them and let them do horrible things. Maine is very rural for the northeast. There are a lot of areas that are still very red. If you were gay, black, or brown and wanted a better time I would recommend crossing into canada rather than maine. It is the same thing with places like niagra falls and buffalo. Cross over to Canada because you get some pretty good prejudice up there, and you are on the easier side of the lake effect snow crapola fest. In maine you really want to stick to the cities, college towns and coastal tourist traps because there is some mississippi level dumbfuck up there in the country. One of the bigger problems with migrating to the rural northeast is you end up needing neighbors during the winter and cold. Keeping communication up with the townies is a part of survival in the deep northeast. You can suffer through your air conditioning breaking down, but if you have trouble with heating and the town does not like you then you need to move. You simply will become a popsickle waiting for service if the weather gets really bad. Someone doing a shit job on your home heating or automobile could mean your life in the rural winter.
