I've always said that police unions are antithetical to police work. Any instance of "blue flu" should be met with immediate termination.

But, the War on Drugs is a lot of it. When I was getting out of it, there was a new generation coming up. They were all hot-heads that wanted to be the next person to score the big multi-million dollar bust, so they hassled everyone all the time. Well, those guys are Lieutenants and Captains now.

There's a podcast I listen to that made a good point today. It's normally two guys who are Senior and Executive Pastor at a church in suburban Chicagoland. The Senior Pastor is a bald, with a big beard 40-something metal head white guy. The Executive Pastor is a 40-something long-haired Latino big-dude (If you didn't know him, you'd think he was Samoan). The Senior Pastor has been pulled over four times in the last twelve months for speeding. He hasn't gotten a ticket yet. The Executive Pastor has been pulled over twice in the last twelve months. Once for speeding and once for a non-functional tail light. He got a ticket both times.

They are mentoring a 20-something year old black man to be a Pastor one day. One Sunday, he got pulled over literally leaving the church parking lot after a Sunday Morning Service for driving while black. He got arrested.

Nike got rich by supporting the kneeling thing. The rich guys saw that. I am quite sure they are about to leave your bitch ass out in the cold. There is a lot more money with everyone than pandering to a small group of little white bitch asses like you.

Suck it fucko. The NFL does not give a fuck about you and they know where the green is. Have fun with golf, and remember that is the most prissy delicate game around. You could have tea parties and frilly dresses and the game would not change much. I know, because that is how I like to spice up that boring ass stroll through well manicured fields.

I have seen NY, CT and NJ police play paintball. I was the ref for many of their games. The safest thing to be was often their opponents. There was a story back in the day about a guy who had two cops empty their side arms at him and not hit him. None of us at the field were surprised. The Police groups were good money, but one of the worst to have to ref. Everyone was going to take a beating on those fields from erratic fire. Due to my ability to control a field well I was often given the police groups. This was the standard cops and administrators rec play and not training. When we were involved in training it was selected officers and scenarios and things were different.

So you are saying it would be a legitimate move if it didn't cost them revenue?

    Then what are you saying?

If you want to judge the value of a statement in financial terms you've opened that door, not me. Human lives, rights and values are not commercial properties, they aren't on the free market and if they carry a cost then the NFL should be proud for elevating the level of discourse above the fact of being a commercial venture.

Kneeling for a flag is a perfectly legitimate expression of those values, especially now their employer has cottoned onto the fact they were in the wrong for trying to combat it at all. That acceptance suggests that maybe, just maybe, some minds are being changed and the protests are working.

Unless, of course, you're more concerned about the dignity of a piece of cloth?

It is precisely because I am "concerned about the dignity of a piece of cloth", or at least of what that peice of cloth is supposed to represent, that I am in favour of taking a knee. If I didn't care about "all men are created equal" and "government of the people, by the people and for the people" and "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free", then I would say it doesn't matter.

Let's face it, the history of the US is a history of violence, blatant racism and exploitation of the poor by the rich (which is in fact the case for almost every country in the world). But for a while there, America was actually moving ahead, and making progress on those dismal stains on its honour. But lately, and with a very marked acceleration since 2016, it has been moving backward again. And because I care about that, I support wholeheartedly the principle of taking a knee.

If for some ridiculously unlikely reason I was to go to the White House to meet Donald Trump (and if I accepted, which is even more unlikely), when I came into his presence I would take a knee. Because I care about what America is supposed to be, and he doesn't.

Wow. That's rich, coming from a guy who's been an ex-pat most (if not all) of his adult life and just spews hatred at his own country from foreign shores. Way to go, there.

I'd love to hear the mealy-mouthed, anti-American shit you spout to your French neighbors in order to ingratiate yourself with them.
