I’m sure the right will make as big a deal out of this as they did Clinton’s trying to lawyer speak around the meaning of ‘is’.

And then Trump sent his good Republican cops in to kill the bad Democrat cops, and the Fox News audience cheered, and danced in the streets, and his poll numbers skyrocketed, and Pat Robertson took back his daddy-lecture, and peace and harmony filled the land, and....

Oh, wait, none of that, because go fuck yourself.

No-one is saying it's all Trumps fault, what they are saying is that he is fanning the flames.

How much of the protests have you watched? How many speeches have you listened to or read? Because I can tell you that in the messaging being put out it isn't really a Republican vs Democrat thing, it's an "The entire system is broken" thing.

Political parties will always say that everything wrong is the other parties fault.

Seems the "clearing a path for the photo-op" mess might have been caused by the Guard panicking that the military would be brought in if they were seen as unable to manage the protests:

The only positive I can draw from this (and it's not much) is that unlike with the old man being pushed several of his colleagues appear to be trying to stop him.

The whole Trump-in-the-bunker complaint is weird, since it was the secret service's call to put him there, he was only there a little while, but Biden has been hiding in his cellar for two months.

yet we've seen pics of Biden in public over the last few weeks...
meanwhile, durr Fubar has only added fuel to the fires.

maybe you're onto something though. Like, they didn't hide him away to protect him so much as an act of damage control?

Biden is social distancing. The President, who has made a point of showing off that he won't heed medical advice, is hiding from the people he governs who are engaged in protests, often violent, against him.

Trump thinks wearing a mask makes him look weak but not hiding in a bunker behind a ring of steel and a bunch of National Guardsmen and DoJ agents.

Sorry, but I just can't get behind this "Trump is a coward for hiding in a bunker" business. I think (hope...) it is no secret on this board that it would be extremely difficult for my opinion of Trump to be any lower, but I want him criticized for things where he really is wrong. This is not one of them.

This is standard Secret Service policy. You don't hesitate; if there is the slightest threat to the president (and it is no secret to them that almost no president has been as roundly detested as Trump is), you get him out of the way. Now. You don't ask his opinion, you don't hesitate. You just do it.

Now if you want to criticize Trump for his blatant lie about just going to the bunker to "inspect it", or for thinking the American people are so stupid that they would actually believe such an obvious lie, I'm all for it. Those are the kinds of things that show how utterly unreliable he is. But the fact of being taken to the bunker is not his fault, and was not even an error. It is standard policy.
