So long as we distinguish between "views" and "facts" I completely agree. I do not concur that clearly non-factual claims deserve a place at the table (notwithstanding, some things which fall into the realm of facts are still debatable - say, almost any disagreement in economics for instance)

They can be one and the same. I hope you never have a crack at law, as I'm fairly sure any defendant would be fucked the moment you flounced out of the courtroom because the prosecution didn't quite meet your stringent requirements in communicating.

By all means refute my, ahem, accusation. Right now you're doing an excellent job of the reverse.

Valerie Solanis is in da house. Lucky I'm not in my silver wig today :marathon:

Facts have their limitations in society. Governments cannot even base policy on them that have global impacts! Facts are good at disputing claims, however how often do we actually see that? In general view-based claims tend to be countered with other view-based claims, regardless of the existence of any facts mainly as we debate with the data available to us which is rarely comprehensive.

Hell, most people don't bother with facts because the lie is much more comforting. The earth is experiencing climactic change on a scale we've never experienced before, and the evidence points to mankind as a significant contributor to that climate change. It is so much more comforting, however, to believe that 99.97% of all scientists are in the back pocket of some devious government entity, than it is to accept the hard truth that we must change. We either adapt or die. We currently have an administration who refuses to accept any problem, who exacerbates our current problems, and actively creates new ones that will only accelerate the issue. Facts have no place here now, except to be denied, to draw people together in denial, to combat the truth with comforting lies.

The limit of fact is the limit of human intellect. A stupid man will ignore a fact, and all facts carry the same weight for the stupid man. Right now, we have a weightless administration, and Britain's not seeing much better. Two major world powers covering their eyes, and shouting at the top of their lungs that everything is okay, no one is hungry, no one is poor, no one is dying, we're all going to be fine. It's not, they are, they definitely are, it's inevitable, and we won't be as long as this trend continues.

The problem there is it's all a little like Ker-Plunk. Most of the problems require complex solutions, yet parties of all positions tend to respond in terms of "moar government and moar money", with the argument being about what levers are used to get that money and how it gets redistributed. No one wants to actually invest any thought in it.

I can't speak for the US, but in terms of the NHS and councils I can say with as measure of authority that they get ample monies, it's how it gets used that is the problem. Central government is happy to tell them to ring-fence funds, but won't deal with the day-to-day idiocies that see billions go to waste making for a rather toxic stew.
