Is there some virus going around that makes people unable to quote at regular font sizes?

Yeah this is terrible. I seriously doubt there is any policy that says put the dog in the overhead bin. I would have refused as the dog owner.

United's own policy says nothing about putting an animal in the overhead bin.

Why didn't the other stewardesses step up and say something?

Only retarded, lame ass people fly United. It’s literally the worst North American commercial carrier and it’s not even close. You couldn’t pay me to fly them

I honestly didn't even know they were still around! Sad about that dog though, but I do support United hiring the mentally challenged.

Yeah, thanks, but they're the only carrier that has a non-stop route from Newark to Greenville, SC, where my mother is. They do indeed suck, but I have no choice.

Last year they cancelled our flight to Raleigh two hours before boarding. Everybody on that flight was already in the airport or on their way. My wife was in the middle of getting the full TSA patdown and luggage search at security when the cancellation email arrived.

nope, the stress of being in a dark noisy place for hours. It died of a broken heart.

Think about this before you check Fido as luggage or freight, or a carry-on in the overhead bin.

Yep. Thanks to the consolidation of the American airline industry I have two options to get back to my parents, United or pay hundreds more to take longer to fly Delta.

Now, yeah, otherwise I try and fly Alaska. But no Alaska to PNS or MOB.

A coworker said to try Jet Blue, they're great!! Yeah - the only flight to Greenville goes north to Boston first, then Boston to GSP. WTF???

    Dude.

    Drive.

    It's only about 10 hours.

Seriously. By the time you factor in driving to the airport, finding parking, checking your baggage, getting ass-raped by the TSA, taxiing from the gate to the runway, flying two hours, taxiing back to the gate, retrieving your luggage and driving to your mom's, you're only saving about 2-3 hours by flying.

It's worth it to avoid any commercial airline in the United States.

    They all suck ass.

They recently purchased Virgin. Hopefully they'll be big enough to push the Big Three (United, American & Delta).

Mostly that beefs up their West Coast presence. I'd love it if JetBlue started serving Boise, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

My mom lives just under 500 miles from me. In the last 12 years I've flown once to go visit her, reason I flew is that I was driving back up. In that time, I've probably driven down there 12-15 times.

    Flying there takes:

1 hour at least to the airport
1 hour from getting there to the gate
    30 minutes at the gate
    1.5 hours flight
30 minutes to get out of the airport
    1 hour to her house

And that's at the best, 5.5 hours. Not accounting for the flight taking off late, or the drive to or from the airport taking longer.

I can make the drive in 8 hours or less, usually it takes around 7 to 7.5 hours. Generally I just stop long enough to get gas and piss.

And once I'm there I have my car, don't have to rent one, use my mom's, or use Uber/Lyft.

yep - driving in this case is a no-brainer. MythBusters did a study on flying versus driving if you get time to check it out.

I think I saw that one. And it also costs less to drive. I'm most likely going this coming weekend. A round-trip flight would be around $160-200 and parking would run about $50. The gas for the trip is going to be about $100. And since I'm talking my dog with me, the airline charges around $50-75 per trip as well.

Flying a pet would worry me. Recently there was a mix-up (United again) :brood: and a dog got flown to Japan by mistake. United paid to get the dog where it goes but still....Google for more details. I flew a cat from Germany and there are a lot of rules & stipulations too.

Only?? I can't even stand driving 20 miles to work twice a day!
It's about 18 hours to SC in reality - my parents used to drive it. My father liked to drive, and he even he said it was a bit beyond his limits of tolerance. They eventually ended up doing it in 2 hops with an overnight in a motel. Me, I can only imagine the back pain, sciatica and arm tingling (poor circulation) after 18 hours! (also, we take a car service to the airport and only carry carry-on, so there's no parking hassle).
Time like that also kinda cuts into the vacation time, don't it? We've only got so much time off, I don't wanna spend it driving! In fact, if I can take a whole week off without ever getting in my car, I'm a happy puppy.

My worst trip was 34 hours straight behind the wheel during the war except for a quick piss break now and then. All I could think about was
Second worst was getting off work here in Augusta GA on Friday afternoon and driving straight through to New Jersey (near Newark) then getting about four hours sleep and driving right back to Augusta. :brood: The things we do for our kids sometimes......:jayzus:

Animals eat other animals, and so do we. That is something the kids should know unless there was something uniquely sadistic about it..It is called nature and if you don't teach your kids animals eat them then they go trying to pet alligators at Disney world and become snacks because you were a bad parent and did not warn them about the food chain.

Take the train. It is a lovely trip and it goes from Newark to Greenville I am pretty sure. You sleep on the train and get there energized instead of having car lag or being frazzled by the airlines. It is really a nice trip and you get more luggage space for free. Pack a lunch or prepare for snack car burgers and stuff they cook in a microwave. Bring a pad or laptop with some movies and stuff and just glide your way on down. Have a couple of drinks and relax your way and the train trip can be a fun part of the vacation rather than the hassle at the front and back of it.

Honestly the best airlines I have flown on are Singapore and Korea airlines. More leg room, better seats, hot female flight attendants because they fire them for being over the hill after they reach 25, and top notch service with better inflight meals and snacks.

With United you are lucky to have a worn out 20 year old seat with no leg room and if they give you a tiny bag of peanuts during the flight. Not losing you checked baggage is a bonus (and it happened so often I normally don't check bags and just bring a carry on).

For the domestics Delta is good though thry are mostly in the SE whivh is a crappy part of the country and which I have had few reasons to visit since I left the service and my aunt moved from Atlanta back to California (buying a plave in Dana Point).
