I do not know if I'm allowed to repeat that here. All I can say is the person in question posted material from another discussion board and used it to attack me/insult me.
ed629 and El Chup are the only two here immoral enough to do such a thing. Fret not, their time will come.
I already know how to abuse the function. It's not rocket scienec. This is the whole point, I contend that there has has been no abuses beyond Dayton's two old reports, and clearly I and Face don't agree that they were legitimate. So why can't the other concerns be addressed? I reported a post today, and it was treated as legitimate. I did it both as a test, and also because it was a clear rule breach. But I also asked for feedback and didn't get it. So it's still in the eye of the beholder, and that doesn't sit right with me.
Your contention is wrong, as you lack the information to make that judgment. Furthermore, the information you require is none of your business, as I'm not in the habit of just posting people's reports for everyone to see. No one is required, on any level, to cater to your whims at any given moment. The report function is for reporting posts, not striking up conversations with the Mods. This is very clear, and very simple to understand. That you choose to make an end run around that simple concept speaks more about your approach than it does the rule set itself. This is a tempest in a teapot, and while it fills Wordforge's Drama coffers for another couple of days, it is, otherwise, a waste of time and resources better spent elsewhere.
Look Chup, are you asking for strict rules, applied for every little infraction? I'm legitimately curious, because I don't think you'd like the result. You made at least one warnable post today, we chose not to act. Do you want us to issue a warning? Or do you think some discretion is reasonable? Your incessant whining has become boring. Everybody else seems to get this, as well they should. Common sense isn't hard if your name isn't John Castle.
Was it me? Because if it was, I find it amusing that something from 10 years ago stuck under your skin for so long.
Okay, I've had a busy week and this is the first time I've had a chance to read this thread. This seems like a fair enough compromise. That still doesn't make you any less of a tatting moron for reporting that other post, thpugh. I have a hard time believing it took you ten years to see it when yours is by far one of the most active Blue Room threads.
As for the logo who reports which posts, John and Gul are right. They get flushed soon after the reports are closed, but I will say over the last three months I've had full access, it's been the same three people reporting most of the posts and only one of those was actually a legitimate complaint. Mostly, they've come across the tattle telling baiting bullshit I used to see at Trek BBS in the Enterprise forum.
Considering you have just branded Dayton a "moron" in the Help Desk, the jury is out on your ability to spot a legitimate compliant. Also, if I am in the top three of reporters, it just goes to show you how bullshitty this rule is. Basically you're saying it's hard work to respond to, at most, a handful of reports a month.
I looked for the Captain Decker warning clip from TMP and couldn't find it, so let me just say: NOOOO! That's the worst possible way to go. Not only would it turn a common sense rule into a rigid automatism waiting for abuse, it completely redefines what reporting a post does. Whether a report is sensible or abusive depends on the content of the reported post and the reasoning for the report. It doesn't depend on how many reports a user has issued in the previous month, or on how old the post is, or on any other kind of circumstantial criteria.
Here we go. Of course, I should have realised it takes ten minutes. Start at 1:50 to see what I mean.
The work or lack thereof isn't the point. Even in WF's peak no one was exactly burning midnight oil trying to clear reports out. But no one is entitled to abuse any feature. That's why rep all but went away. That's why tagging threads only lasted a week. That's why Tasvir's PM got shut down for years. ETA: Replying to Chup's last post.
That's a good point I didn't think about because I really don't want to go the Enterprise rules route. Thanks for reminding me of this, I appreciate that.
That's like saying "sure I punched him in the balls by using your fists, but it was only handful of times. Telling me I can't punch him in the balls using your fists is bullshitty!" So let me clarify something for one and all. Whether it is ever 3 abuses, or 300 abuses of the report function: DON'T. FUCK. WITH. THE. BOARD. Keep your interpersonal baiting and backbiting in the threads where they belong, and leave the board software out of it. Simple enough?
The very act of accessing the board technically fucks with the board. I think what you are really trying to say is Don't Fuck with Neroon Jr.
I'm saying don't use the board functions to continue petty sniping against other members. I don't give a shit about technicalities and loopholes. This isn't the Red Room.
So it's okay now to flame Dayton outside the Red Room because it's Dayton? I need to remember this the next time a mod excuses me of alleged trolling Dayton outside the RR. Apparently it's okay for them to do it.
We've excused you of trolling outside the Red Room plenty of times because we consider context. Although Anna's comment was a bit rough, you might consider context too -- there is a pattern to how Dayton Is posting here in the Helpdesk that is border-line trolling. We can clamp down on that sort of thing with lots of warnings and bans, or we can let it go, with the understanding that somebody else might get frustrated and respond a bit too strongly. You might be the only person here sympathetic to the idea that every slight, real or imagined, requires an official action in response.
Oh do piss off with that shit. "Context"? When Dayton says context you don't want to listen. You're nothing but double standard types who come armed with excuses when you've felt like a bit of trolling yourselves. Anna is regularly spamming up Dayton's diary thread and giving him shit, and so are you. But that's apparently not trolling because it's you. I'm not an idiot and the innocent little angels face doesn't wash with me I'm afraid. If my activity in that thread is trolling then so has yours been. The only different is that you are in the ivory tower and get away with shit will being able to be the cunt to me. Quite simply it's one rule for one and one rule for another. Oh, and making veiled threats against members for using the Help Desk is the lowest of the low. It is not trolling to use the Help Desk for the purpose for which it is intended. Not everyone is like that, I except that. But where I see unfairness then I'm gonna make a stand. Considering who I am and what I do it should not surprise you that I would defend against unfairness where I see it. That isn't trolling, that isn't being principled...and that is why I will defend Dayton or anyone else I think is being shit upon, irrespective of my view of their opinions on other issues. Hell, you can even see that in the amount of times I've called Castle's banning unjustified, and were it not for his subsequent off board antics, his continuing ban would have been equally unjust. Don't like people using this Help Desk? Shut it down. Don't like the report post function? Remove it for everyone. Don't like anything but an echo chamber? Censor as much as you can. The result will be the loss of even more people.
Should I warn you for calling me a cunt? Yes, perhaps I should, and we'll call it the Chup rule. Seriously dude, grow the fuck up.
