    :jayzus:

What's next? 90 days in the pokey for trying to eat a Big Mac while driving? A year for yelling at your kids in the backseat while trying to navigate through heavy traffic?

Cause driving while smashed is just like occasionally tweaking your Tomtom, the iPod connected to your stereo or talking on the phone.

You only get done after you have had a serious accident...

Actualy, using a handheld mobile has been shown to be more dangerous than being over the drink drive limit

If it causes you to have an accident, then yes, it's just as bad.

    Yep. It is.

    :zod:

You must not notice the people who will randomly drift into your lane because they're not paying attention to the road.

If that's the only criteria you're using then why stop with just banning talking on a cell? People who have been distracted by fiddling with their radios, rubbernecking and talking with passengers have also caused wrecks so lets ban all those too!

You can be fined for all of those in most states if it is shown that they caused an accident.

You're one of them, aren't you? You're one of those assholes who's always yakkin' away on his cell phone in the car.

Its not 'banning' (in this instance, it is already against the law to drive whilst using a hendheld, but its never really enforced), Its taking the use of that thing into account when sentencing.
If you cause a serious accident, you will get a heavier sentence If you were on a mobile phone when you crash

Fining people who cause an accident because of doing something distracting I have no problem, it's Britain's "Go to jail for up to 2 years if you do so much as cause a driver to swerve while using a 'distracting device'" policy that I take issue with.

But that's not the policy. The maximum sentence for the offence is 2 years, but that is reserved for people who cause serious accidents and injury.

Thankfully, if you cause death by dangerous driving the max penalty is higher (14 years).

Exactly why the fuck should anyone have to tolerate your "causing them to swerve" just so you can fiddle with your goddamned electronic toys?

Fuck people who cause me to swerve. Cell phones, radios, food, children, reading material, or just plain old oblivious lane-changing. Fuck 'em all right in the ear.

Yes, I lack such an understanding that I went back and edited my post after realizing my screwup.

    DUR!

Why in the fuck should I get dragged into court because someone swerved while I fiddled with my TomTom while Sally can force other cars to dart out of the way because she had to turn around to swat her annoying kids, Dave can cause a few potential accidents because he got distracted by a conversation with passenger and Jane can cause a few drivers around her to slam on their brakes because she became transfixed by an accident in the northbound lanes without fear of prosecution?

I'm not singling out cell phone users. I'm talking about ALL of you negligent asshole drivers who think your convenience and enjoyment give you the right to endanger others. And if dragging your asses into court one-by-one is what it takes to correct your malfunction, so fucking be it. You had a choice, and you chose poorly. This is not some kind of unfair persecution.

How old are you? Are you reading the thread? People can be prosceuted for all the things you state....if caught.

Becaus eof this new technology, they want to state specifically that cellphones are not allowed while driving and that accidents caused by their use while driving will be prosceuted.

Without the phone it might be an 'accident'. With the phone, its your fault.

Me thinks you're the one not really reading the thread (Advice: Read post #19 and my reponse to it again, real slowly), unless you can show me where people can face a potential jail sentence of 2 years for causing someone to swerve while doing any of the things that I listed.

    Not just accidents.

You ever heard of reckless driving? Or causing a hazard on the road?

Build up a few tickets for that and you could ultimately get jail time. The things you speak of can't easily be proven. The phone business can be proven.

All you sound like is a guy in court whining about the other folks they didn't catch. Why me? :weep:

I'm just someone who thinks it's idiotic for those who cause drivers to swerve while talking to someone on a phone to potentially face time in the pokey while the same isn't true for others who do the same because they're just crappy drivers, like to cut people off, were distracted by a song on the radio, etc, etc, etc.
