...and we should be able to perform searches on those databases free of charge.

That way, it would be quick and easy for me to track down the ratfuck piece of monkey shit truck driver who just tried to kill me and three other people in the space of 5 fucking minutes with his frequent, abrupt, no-signal, no-look lane changes. For some reason, he declined to pull over and discuss it with me at the time.

Good idea. Too bad nobody had him on video doing this, as proof to have his ass fined.

Your post clearly shows why those records should NOT be available to the public at large.

I feel UA pain...but unless a cop catches this guy in the act of driving crazy, there's nothing anyone can do. Hopefully he'll get caught and ticketed before he kills someone.

I guess in that way, they know who asked for the info. And if that person get his car vandalized they can zero in on the mug who looked up his info.

But I'm pretty sure you'd have to give some kind of reason for the info.

Shouldn't be available because then negligent asshole drivers might be held responsible for their actions?

Yeah, what a terrible idea. The last thing we want to do is encourage people to pull their heads out of their asses before turning the key.

I shoulda just followed the cocksucker out of town.

And acting on such information leads to this
    Because...
:jayzus: It's bloody annoying when we get carved up/flipped off/whatever, but I think it's better not to act as a result...

If only traffic police would focus more on catching the crazy drivers than on catching the speeders--which isn't to say that speeding isn't an element of a lot of drivers' craziness, just that we all see things on the road every day that are a lot more dangerous than just driving 70 MPH on the highway. Unfortunately traffic policing seems to be more about revenue generation than safety, and speeding tickets are a particularly easy way to raise revenue.

Whoa.....I think this lost something in translation.
I'm missing half my stomach, part of a finger, part of my left hand, etc. and it was way beyond annoying at the time.

People who use the information to commit crimes should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. That doesn't justify denying everyone else access to it.

Track him down and have some words. Take it up with his employer. File a reckless driving report. All of the above.

And if he is provoked into laying hands on me, well.... :?:

All of them. We both were. My lane changes were signaled and gradual, and my following distance always sensible. But I was on all sides of that truck at some point, looking for numbers to memorize and gesturing for him to pull over.

This will one day get you killed I'm afraid. :( Think of the wife and try to restrain yourself from this behaviour, especially if you're in a Jeep and they're in an 80,000lb semi.

Cutting in front of someone on a roundabout, forcing them to brake, is usually described as 'carving up' here. Can be avoided by those with a strong nerve/older car/ decent insurance/ any combination thereof. ;)

The reckless driving report will be a waste of time. I doubt the police would even take it.

The employer bit is a good idea. Talking to the driver, not.

Well I'm sure he realized you were pretty pissed off at this point. I sure wouldn't pull over if I pissed somebody off. I got rear ended (zero damage, just a slight push) about a month ago waiting at a red light. If there were several passengers, or the guy had tinted windows I would have locked all the doors because I had my family with me. People get shot in traffic all the time in my town. It's a common way to carjack or mug someone.

Not to mention that trucks are hijacked. OTR guys are constantly vigilant about this possability, and will use that truck as a weapon if need be.

GAH! :bang: :bang:  :ua: :boom: :nuke:

It just fucking pissess me off that people can behave like that with no accountability. Would he drive like that if he had no choice but to stand in front of me and look me in the eye afterwards? Of course not.
