To be completely fair, the burned body was actually one of the rioters and not one of the Embassy Staff.

I'm pretty sure the Marine Detachments don't have the capability to resist a mob invasion.

I hope none of our information was compromised; the Serbs do love Russia.

It's no surprise that the nations that oppose Kosovo's independence are nations with suppressed nations within their borders like Russia, China, ...and even Spain.

    Gora Euskadi! :mob:

Actually, the Basques and Catalans are pretty happy with their autonomy. Euskal Herra/Batasuna/whatever they've renamed themselves now gets a negligible amount of the votes.

Well yes, there are varying levels of content. But they're still essentially suppressed nations. It's presumably why Spain is hesitant to recognize Kosovo, even though most major European nations and the EU collectively has

Theoretically they are all supposed to be Rifleman. It shouldn't have taken too many to hold off even a thousand trying to squeeze through a chokepoint.

It was just sent over the wire that the marine detachment stationed at the Serbian embassy was too busy with their butt chain after the weekly SG-1 marathon. :(

Are they really? When I was in the Basque Country in... '99 the only issues I saw where the presence of Federal Police there and the Spanish Government's violation of the constitution by not sending ETA members to closest prison to their home.

Josu and his family were very VERY pro Basque (his father even watching Basque TV although he didn't speak it) but they seemed pretty content with the status quo (except of course for the two issues listed).

I believe they even have full control over taxation and education now no?

Well yeah... the Federal Government can't be said to be in any way intelligent when it comes to the Basques and Catalans. Just b/c they're scared doesn't mean they should be.

I have a good friend (Ranger) who was on Carter's failed mission to Iran to liberate the hostages. He is in a totally different line of work these days, and on the back of his business card, between "Orgies Organized" and "Cherries Popped" is the task "Marines Rescued". That fact that the mission was failure in no way takes away from the humor. ;)

Like I said, I'm pretty sure their whole game plan is evacuation, not shooting people.

  One of the areas I know very little about is MSG (Marine Security Guard) work. But one of my buddies was one when he was enlisted. I'll drop him a line tomorrow and see what I can find out. I think part of the issue, though, is that they don't want to start a diplomatic incident, and they need to let host nation security forces respond. They have to hang back until actual lives or classified materials are jeopardized.

The other thing is that they really aren't outfitted for escalation and sustained combat, so the only way they're going to engage is if a NEO (Noncombatant Evacuation Operation) from a MAGTF (Marine Air-Ground Task Force) is inbound.

Was the embassy not unstaffed at the time? (not that that makes things better but...)

I'm quite sure the guards are under strict rules - they can only only use deadly (or any force) if their actual lives are in danger - which is tough to prove. I know the training I had in Bosnia/Korea concerning cicvl unrest had such rules.

Baba's been bragging up and down about his Knight in Shining Armor. It's cute. I think he loves you. I don't personally care what's going on between you two but I thought you should know just in case he is spreading vicious lies.

 Nah, I don't know anything about that. Personally I think it would be sort of sad and pathetic if someone was obsessed over the baba and his whole online existence apparently involved following him around and repping his posts, don't you? :ramen:

From what I hear, you would know more about pathetic-online-existences-brought-on-by-repping-all-of-baba's-posts than I.
