Vox Populi: Should Goldeneye Be Freed?

There's been considerable discussion over the recent ban of CheekyMonkey and Goldeneye.

CheekyMonkey's ban seems to have been justified, but I am certain I am not the only one uncomfortable with the simultaneous ban of GE.

So this poll is intended to let management know the opinion of the citizens of Wordforge.

More banning on Wordforge now than there ever was on TBBS.

Goldeneye banned? WTF! And for what?

I doubt whether he'll want to be back terribly much after what's transpired, but based on the info that's been made available so far, that should be his decision.

In brief - CheekyMonkey went berserk (I wasn't there, so this is secondhand) and posted personal info on other posters.

Cheeky and Goldeneye are apparently seeing each other RL, so Goldeneye was banned along with CM in what seems to have been a pre-emptive measure to ensure CM stayed off the board.

To me, however, this is no different than the Bush administration's desire to disappear anyone who MIGHT be a terrorist. Maybe the concern of WF's staff is justified; however, until Goldeneye's account IS used for such a purpose, I don't think it should be locked. Innocent until proven guilty is a principle to which I strongly adhere and which should apply just as much here as in real life.

I was under the impression that this was temporary until Elwood can get back to sort it all out.

If so, then fine - but there's no harm in letting the staff know how the posters feel about it, is there?

Actually, yes. You're aggravating an already bad situation that will be dealt with when Elwood gets back... One that has details that are quite bluntly nobody's business but those directly involved. It's getting tiresome having to deal with everyone's desire for gossip porn.

I remember vaguely something happening like this way back when Cassandra was still owner of the board. She banned some European dude who was a mod of the graphic design forum for hacking, and his crazy bitch girlfriend at the same time.

Up until a few years ago, she STILL kept complaining about her banning on Troll Kingdom.

Why wait for info on a pre-emptive banning at all. If Elwood can take enough time to tell you to ban him, he could have also told you to tell us all why.

Asking us to wait, smacks more like hoping we'll lose interest and forget about it.

Seriously -- say if GE is unlocked and CM does go on a posting rampage with his account, how is it going to be any worse or more damaging than all the current speculation anyway?

And surely a mod would delete any posts that reveal personal info and permaban the GE account in the bat of an eyelid if that happened, anyhoo.

If I remember correctly form the "other" thread, he left orders that if she started shit, what should be done. They've said she's been telling them she was going to do something for days. Read the god damn thread.

And AGAIN, if he had enough forethought to set up the plan, he should have had the explanation part ready as well.

I love Elwood, but I have no patience for these things. We started this place to get away from a board where things like this were the order of the day.

It's not like he is saying give me another day. He's not around a freaking computer. And for all we know nobody can even get a hold of him. I know Flow tried his phone, but couldn't get through to him for some reason.

He's on a stake-out. Drinking bad coffee and wearing the same clothes for like 4 days. Sitting in a car that was formerly a homeless persons car.

Honestly, this is the part I don't understand. It has been mentioned several times that what CM did in her BR thread was accuse Elwood of lying to the board about being a cop. The way she did it was hurtful and mean, but not any more damaging that people who don't even know the story trying to guess what happened, IMO. If we're not going to tell everyone to STFU and wait for an explanation, I don't see why it would matter if Goldeneye got to share his point of view. I guess the argument is similar to the Astaroth/Missy M. situation, only Missy M. did actually use Astaroth's account. Then again, I don't know the whole story either, so it's quite probable there is more to it than that. Maybe one of the threats CM made was to use his account, so they felt they had to ban him, too. I dunno. Elwood has always been fair and honest with me, so I'll just hold out for him to explain. That being said, I wouldn't really blame Goldeneye if he didn't want to come back after this.

Just because the only guy he ever arrests is Otis the Drunk, doesn't mean he's not a real cop.

How the hell is any of this anyone's damn business but Goldeneye's Cheekymonkey's and Elwood's

Uh, wordforge is a community, on top of that made up largely of people with a particular concern for seeing rules enforced evenhandedly, which makes it everyone's business.

That doesn't mean that complaints can't go overboard, or that impatience can't cause more trouble than it's worth, of course.
