Dude, I was 11B and am an wanna be competitive shooter. I was talking about sound suppressors. Silencer is an incorrect term as they do nothing of the sort. Suppressors for M4s tend to work best on short barreled ones (about 11") and can also work on 14.5" barrels. The problem with them is that they beat the shit out of the extractor, the extractor spring and buffer and buffer spring. Fully auto weapons like the M4 A3 can have suppressors on them and continue to work. but you are right in that it will wear the suppressors out.
There's your best all round Reanimated Life Form neutralizer. More ammo around than there are stars in the heavens and spare parts or entire new units can be found anywhere. And suppression is easily achieved. And even a child can handle it easily.
[spoilers] The scenes with the sisters were fairly intense for TV. So was the whole bit about leaving the infected guy behind. I'm finding these sub-plots and daily survival stuff more interesting than the main plots so far. Deputy Man was really showing his ass with the "You're killing us!! " tantrum. That's really the kind of shit you wanna show your son. For that matter, it was some stunningly bad judgement to bring the kid with them all the way to the CDC in the first place. Can't believe the momma went along with that. Shoulda found somewhere nearby for the main group to hole up while a scouting party checked out the facility. [/spoilers]
^^^ They made it clear that there was to be no more splitting up. In fact that was the prime selling point for getting people to go to the CDC at all.
Yeah, but there's a difference between driving 20 miles away, and the main group locking itself in a secure location a block from the CDC. That's what I would've done.
Just watched the first ep. Very impressed, got the other 4 to watch tonight. I wouldnt usually go for 'zombies' as I find them about as interesting as vampires or werewolves. But Darabonts involvement plus the universally positive reviews got me interested. Ill definitely be sticking with this one.
Ah, there's your problem! I was never an 11B (I was Air Traffic Control/aviation) so we never had access to the sophisticated or newer weaponry. We only shot the basic M-16 even in Iraq 2003. We never even got the M-4! We never had ceramic plates in our vests, camoflaged vehicles or anything. I never knew the M-16 had a noise suppressor.
11 Series = Infantry 11A - infantry officer 11B - Infantryman 11C - Mortars 11H - TOW missile operator - Now rolled into 11B 11M - No longer in use, used to be Bradley Infantry, Now rolled into 11B
Good episode. Wish they had shown Jim changing into a Zombie. I was pretty shocked at how much of wife-beater had been eaten by the Zombies. What everyone in the group do wait until they killed off all the other Zombies before getting the ones who were eating him? Poor Hispanic family. You guys are toast. Wildfire.....first thing I thought of was the Andromeda Strain.
Caught it last night. My wife was pissed that they left Jim on the side of the road. She said that they should have given him the opportunity to do the right thing. Instead they left him to turn into a zombie. Who knows, maybe he will come back to be killed later on? She thought the opening scene between the sisters was touching. The old man needs to rat the other deputy out.
Actually, with the CDC Dude's mishap in the lab, losing all the "freshest" brain tissue samples, I foresee a subplot in the next episode or two where some of the team goes back to retrieve Jim, knowing he'll be a "freshly converted" zombie who can provide good brain tissue samples for the lab dude. Oh, and the group needs to find like a trio of hawt college chicks who have somehow managed to survive. 'Cause the remaining women in the group ain't exactly eye candy (okay, Rick's wife ain't bad, but still...).
Did Andrea (the older sister of the one that got bit last week) die? She's pretty good lookin'... (I won't be able to see Sunday's episode until next Saturday night at the earliest...)
Bevause in all my years no armorer (or anyone actually) ever refered to the flash suppressor as a sound suppressor. No manual, poster, 2404 Maintenance Form ever used that term. See these examples:
It's what Jim wanted (and what they did in the comics). Plus they did give him the opportunity to do the right thing. Asked him several times. Rick even asked him if he wanted a gun. What show is she watching? That was the first thing that jumped into my head. And that must suck to be the last CDC guy with the rest having panicked and bailed. That's next season.
I'm sure he's talking about a sound suppressor that you add on to the weapon and not that the flash suppressor is the sound suppressor.
Started watching this, and thoroughly enjoying it. Only thing that gets me is, if the zombies are attracted to noise and just shamble forwards, why didn't the military dig huge pits, attract the zombies and then use some gold old napalm or even just bury them? You could end the zombie apocalypse with a JCB and a tonne of firecrackers.
The event started so quickly that the military probably didnt have time to think it through and change tactics. They probably treated it as a conventional war and deployed their forces accordingly. In the book "World War Z" they covered that pretty thoroughly. The end result was the same.
It's probably deliberate, but none of the characters are all that likeable. The blonde chick who un-zombied her sister all up close and personal gets some badass credit for that, but the rest of the time she's just horribly fucking lame. Old dude in the RV - less lame but too much of a pussy. Main character deputy guy who woke up from the coma - Whiny, self-absorbed douche who can shoot. His wife isn't much better. How many days did her loyalty and mourning hold out before she decided it's OK for some other dude to be keeping her sleeping bag warm? His cop buddy - Credit for looking after his friends family, subtractions for boning his friends wife. Credit for thumping on the wife-beater, subtractions for strongly considering shooting his buddy out there in the woods. Total wash, in the balance. I can't see why anyone would show these two guys any loyalty or obedience. The first time one of them tried to give me an order would be the day I told him to get fucked, before gathering up my shit and marching off on my own.
A flash suppressor is completely different from a sound suppressor. The sound suppressor is an add on, mainly used by SF units. The flash suppressor is on every M16 / M4.
