Caught a screener of the premier ep today (air date: 10/31 10:00PM). Early thoughts: extremely violent (head-shots, crawling torsos, basically R-rated gore), consistent with most zombie lore (slow Z's, needs head shot to kill, scratch or bite to infect), very tense ending, well worth a look. Quick Plot (no real spoilers): Everyman policeman Rick is involved in a high-speed showdown & is shot in the shoulder. He awakens later in the hospital (a la 28 Days Later) with everyone dead. He meets up with survivors Morgan & Duane (father & son) who fill him (& us) in on what happened (we still don't know how long it's been or what started the outbreak. Rick goes to Atlanta (CDC?) to look for his wife & son, but he only finds trouble. [?=Plot Point Spoilers]There's a band of survivors. led by Rick's partner Shane, who try to warn him off from Atlanta via CB radio, but neither one realizes who they're talking to. I don't know if we'll see much of Morgan & Duane as they're not listed as major characters at the AMC site (& it looks like given a shot at his late wife, Morgan chokes - doesn't bode well for his future). Also, the people who radio Rick in the tank at the end seem like dicks - they could be bad guys.[/?] Prognosis: Excellent. Will be DVR'ing this one regularly.
Got a season pass for iTunes, the comics, and can't wait until Oct 31!!! How'd you see the screener? "He awakens later in the hospital (a la 28 Days Later)" The story behind that is the comic book was written before that movie but was published after the movie came out so they both didn't steal from each other.
You'd be surprised what you can find on teh interwebz I didn't have any complaints about this. It's a nice plot device that allows us to more easily identify with Rick. It also makes expository scenes seem more natural as Rick doesn't know anything more than we do.
Missed it, had to work. Maybe I'll get up the iniative to un-pack my new VCR-DVD-R combo and set it up this week.
Yeah, Torso lady was pretty freaky. In the beginning that car flipping over after hitting the strip was a little unlikely.....I've seen cars run them over with no ill effects (other than flattened tires + damaged rims if they don't stop driving.) And the occupants seemed pretty spry + healthy after that extreme rollover. But hey, kind of a moot point since zombie uprisings pretty much suspend disbelief anyway. Cool that it takes place around Hotlanta.....I-85 was mentioned!
Dude, it's on AMC, not A&E, that's Dog, the Bounty Hunter and Chris Angel: Mindfreak. Just how could you not have heard or at the very least, read about it?
Your link isn't working. Maybe the thread you meant to link to wasn't that memorable? I dunno. "Walking Dead" didn't ring a bell with me, so I looked it up and shared the link.
The torso lady was one of the best zombie effects I've see. I'm really pleased with the make up effects and gore so far.
Fantastic. I thought the setup and pacing were perfect, along with the minimal exposition. I don't need to know the how and why of the world he wakes up in, only the fact that it is. This is why God made the DVR.
Got around to watching it this morning. Pretty damn good (and I agree with Brudder, poor lil' pony ). The only thing I need to know is how and what the "zombie plague" is and started. Other than that good stuff
For a minute there I was wondering if torso lady was his wife or someone he knew or something. Then we learn that his wife and kid are obviously alive. I look forward to seeing where they go with this show.
Torso lady was a great effect, a combination of using an amputee and great make-up, especially on the face.
It starts over here next week, looking forward to it. How was Andrew Lincolns American accent? Im quite interested to here it, he's got a very unique voice normally (totally stands out in all his voice over work etc) and as yet can't picture/hear it americanised.
^That's a double mocha latte with brains. Checkout granma zombie in the left foreground. "Well good afternoon young man. Would you like some snickerdoodles while I gnaw on your leg?"
Saw it finally. Loved it. "Hey dumb ass! Yeah you in the tank!" Poor horse. Laughed at the beginning when Rick tells the other officer to make sure his gun is loaded and the safety is off. Guy is carrying a Glock so he pulls back on the slide (too far IMHO) and then fumbles with the safety which is the slide lock.
