A Granny came into the station today. PawPaw passed away about a year ago. Their son, in another state, got all of his guns. But, today she found some ammunition.

She didn't want it in her house and the son didn't want to come get it, so the son told her to bring it to us. I was called up to the front desk.

She had a box of 500 of these on stripper clips:

Forgive the crappy cell phone picture. I'm at work.

I remember some talk of this in the gun rags many years back, but I don't remember the manufacturer.

It's a .30-06 Springfield shell casing around what has measured to be a .223 bullet with a discarding sabot. I imagine the velocity would be rather...high.

Yeah, that velocity would be smoking, no doubt!

Well, the form she signed said she was giving them to the Police Department. But, the Chief told me I could have a handful if I wanted 'em. :diacanu:

I say that if you get them all and shoot them, you are protecting.

Looks like a Remington Accelerator round. .30-'06 with saboted 55 grain PSP .22 projectile. Should be good for around 4000 fps.

Shot one round into a watermelon and videotape it. I'm interested to see what effect it would have on the undead.

I've heard of people using this round for long range varmint shooting. Obviously at 4000 FPS it has a flat trajectory.

    Vitalist bastard. :ua:

Shoot one round into a convict, I'm curious what effect it would have on the living. :diacanu:

Aha! It has an R stamped on the case rim, but I knew y'all wouldn't let me down!

I've got 50 of these little jewels. Unfortunately, I have a problem.

I have a rather old Remington Model 7400 that I'd feed these through, but I bet they wouldn't cycle worth a shit. However, the only .30-06 bolt gun I have is...nice. It's worth more than most of you. :bergman:

Guess I'll have to feed 'em one at a time into ye olde Remington.

Yep, I remember those (in fact, I had no idea they stopped making them).

The idea was, like the man said, to varmint with your deer rifle.

Do you think I'm going to fire ammunition of unknown age and condition from a firearm I'm not willing to junk? :bailey:

Besides, my concern proved true. Due to the unconventional cartrige shape (sabot and sub-caliber bullet), it will not feed properly in a semi-auto.
