Even though it would give me a chance to catch up having missed the second round with a word that would have beaten the winner and pissed off everyone else, blocking, as it did, most of the available letters... Did I mention I get really mean when I'm playing Scrabble...?

It has always been my understanding that when you get two words up, like the ex and ox, you only the get the 'special letter' points once. So you could double the x on ox but then when you count your ex words, the x only gives you 8 points. Thats just the way I've always played it.
I've always played that it scores in as many words as you form when you form them. Oh, and Spider, apologies if you have multiple PMs from me in this round, OTOH, let me know if you don't have any. I had serious freeze issues when I was trying to send it, and although I can see it in my outbox, that doesn't convince me that it's got to you...
I've never used EX. Our games don't allow it. It's more a prefix than a word though evidently it's acceptable in the book these days.

Thanks for the wordlist, spider. Though reading it, I realise that should I ever have to use words like that, I'd be in trouble, as I don't know most of them. Ex is not a strange or uncommon word, and I didn't mean the letter 'x' either. I meant 'ex' as we have probably all used it a number of times, and as it is described in my 1990 dictionary: ex - infml - someone's former wife, husband, girlfriend, or boyfriend: 'I saw your ex the other day.' I've only played scrabble once before, with my ex, and the rules she explained were that you get double value for every word you find - that's the beauty of making multiple words. The rules she explained, however, also forbid the use of word lists or dictionaries - the game shouldn't be about who has the biggest dictionary or the best google skills

I have a (shrinking) list of the letters, and select from it using a random number generator. I was planning to draw them for real, but discovered that my scrabble set is missing two tiles.
My mother thought we had lost a few tiles, she dint realise that i kept a few up my sleeve for strategic purposes!
