So much wrong here. The helmsman, ostensibly the best pilot, is skydiving instead of flying the shuttle; the veteran captain is flying the shuttle instead of - at least - having the presumably very efficient Vulcan (or the Russian whizkid) do it; He promotes Kirk to command rank and then immediately takes him on a very risky mission...
Pike stops being Captain (as opposed to "in command")because he's leaving the ship supposedly temporarily?
    Right out of the Academy?
Again - the NAVIGATOR reports this?
I would think Nimoy would be disgusted with how many "unSpock" moments are written for Spock.

Honestly....The more often I read it the more fucking confused i get.

I'm not wedded to Canon...I've said nothing bad about seeing Romulans or any of that shit.

but the damn thing needs to make some minimum level of sense.

Exactly. You want it to be like the old series. The producers want it to be something new.

So of course, to you, it'll suck. But I get the feeling that it'll be a good action flick.

Another poster who never pays attention to what people write. I've said for the longest that they should toss out all 40 plus years of Trek with the exception of the overall premise and certain things. Fuck the old fans if they can't handle it.

That doesn't mean I'm going to accept the new stuff automatically. If it's crap then I'm going to say it's crap.

There's nothing 'crap' as far as what I have read. Why not watch the movie in its entire completed form before judging it?

The ship don't look too good. The plot that I read on Empire sounds even worse.

Can't speak for others but that's not what Paladin and I are talking about. If I go see "Top Gun" and Cruise comes along never having flown a plane before and says "how hard can it be?" and climbs in the cockpit and preforms stunts....if I'm watching lethal Weapon and Glover meets Gibson in a bar ad hands him a badge and a gun and says "I know you've never been a cop but let's go catch bad guys"

i'm sorry...there has to be a basic level of credibility, even if there is nothing "canon" about it.

Uh...yeah...that stuff on Empire is 80% crap. Now whether it's crap writing which confuses the issue or a crap script I don't know. But there are HUGE flaws in what that report said.

Kevin Smith has seen the whole thing, and says it manages to stay within canon. When it comes to things Trek, I trust his judgement.

We've had such places for ages - universities cater to wide age ranges, with the majority being in the 18-22 range. I don't see why Starfleet Academy wouldn't have programs to accommodate young geniuses or mature students.

I'm not justifying the plot holes, god no, I want to see an experienced Kirk in the centre seat, not some bad boy who got handed the flagship because Admiral D'Mentia was having a senior moment :marathon:

Just wanted to point out that an Academy serving such a narrow age range wouldn't make sense.

Kevin Smith also did Jersey Girl and likes to cast Ben Affleck.

    His judgment is hardly flawless.

And here's a thought, if this new timeline is dropkicking Kirk into the centre seat as quickly as it seems, he's going to bit a fucked when he smells honey and sees a white cloud bearing down on away team.

Or when one of his crew glares at the head of a troupe of actors with murder in his eyes.

The car over the cliff thing at the beginning was pretty cheesy, but the rest looks interesting, from what you can see.

    That looks good*

I'm not too concerned about the action parts, I fully expect them to be excellent, but I want this film to be trek and that means staying true to the nature of the characters even in the reboot.

Hopefully it will be, but we've had 'funny' Scotty before (TFF) and 'action' trek before (NEM) without them working properly, so I'm hoping, fingers crossed, the whole damn movie works.

And the bike... does it do any Galactica 1980 stuff? :D

*but so did the trailers for Nem....

Holy shit, looks like Star Trek's finally getting a balls-to-the-wall Serenity-style space battle.

The beginning of the trailer was just gay but it looks like a really fun flick overall.

I expect the fanboys are going to have a fit. This doesn't look like Trek at all.

Still, a good trailer is one thing. Movie is another.
