Police officers and sheriff's deputies bust people with illegal drugs and illegal weapons every day. Good Question: What Happens To Seized Guns, Drugs?

They're returned to all the crooked politicians and hate groups, to be re-sold back to the slums and ghettos so they can keep making money off of it.

Someone I work with used to work for the police looking after evidence. I used to be a court reporter. We had a fun afternoon swapping stories about drug evidence that went walkies... ;)
Mind you, her stories about how cavalier some officers were when it came to handling seized weapons were bloody hair-raising. :soma:

The cops sell them on the side to other drug dealers and pawn shops.

The drugs are burnt en masse either in an incinerator or in non-populated areas if the quantity is sufficient.

The guns are smelted under the supervision of an officer of the court.

What about seized illegal fireworks? Do they get incinerated, too?

They would be destroyed as well. But, speaking as a gun person, the vast and overwhelming majority of guns in our vault (higher than 99.9%) are kludge I wouldn't want even if you gave it to me.

However, the fate of the drugs and weapons are not in the hands of the police. While the police may oversee it, it's decided by the court, and our Judges take great joy in signing the orders that melts the weapons.

We've petitioned, many times, to sell them in in small lots at blind auctions to licensed FFL dealers, just in the hope of generating revenue, but that's been continuously shot down by our Judges.

I don't know. I've never confiscated fireworks and I've never known anyone that has. I can only assume that they'd be, maybe, ground up and burnt in a controlled manner?

I hear ya. Occasionally though one reads about a rare gun seized by police. How sad to see them go.

Well, if the guns really are "kludge [you] wouldn't want even if [someone] gave it to [you]," then it's probably not worth the risk of the lawsuit that would result when one of them critically misfired.

That's a big :dayton: there.....

The guns would be sold as is.

It would be up to the FFL dealer to bring them within normal operating standards or to junk them.

After all it would be the FFL dealer who bought them. No one says he has to sell them. Once he buys it with full knowledge they are not in perfect condition it falls on his shoulders to take proper care of them.

Unless the state has exempted itself from product liability laws, both the government and the dealer would be liable in such a situation. The government would not be liable to the dealer, but selling as-is to the dealer wouldn't generally eliminate any responsibility the government has to the ultimate consumer. If you put a defective product in a market where you know it's going to be resold, you're responsible.

I've seen a few that were put on display instead of being smelted or destroyed. Mainly Tommy guns.

I assumed that they were deactivated because they were on display for all to see.

    Wrong..........

It's the same with car auctions. The government makes no guarantees on any vehicle it sells. It is up to the new owner to make sure the car is safe and meets all applicable laws.

If the government sells me a gun and tells me that the gun is defective and needs fixing then it is on me to make sure it is fixed before I use it.

No lawsuit from me or someone else would survive in a court. The government would simply point out to the form I signed saying I know the gun is sold as is and it's my responsibility to get it fixed of any and all defects.

Friend of mine used to be a security guard at a local college. He soon found out one of the other guards was the campus source for every kind of drug you can imagine. Soon after that, the other guard was my friend's new best friend. About a year after that my friend was unemployed, separated from his wife and in the hospital.

He probably doesn't even need to call the FBI. My friend has these "new" neighbors who invited us over one evening for drinks after they smelt herb coming from his place. Well, they got us cornered into this little kitchen, one woman, mid 30's, kind of cute. Seemed like one of those bartender types. Friendly, outgoing, a little slutty. Her man though looked like straight sausage. For a moment I was wondering if undercover was about to walk in or it was going to turn into one of those situations where the white guy asks us to fuck his old lady. Either way I was just glad to get the fuck out of there. They poured a few shots, tried to convince us they weren't cops and then we were on our way. The whole thing was fucking weird though.

IIRC, New York disposes of its confiscated guns by dumping them out at sea.

Somewhere I once saw a photo of a pile of them, and Elwood's right. Nothing but junkers. Which makes me wonder why the libs are in such a hissy fit to ban $10,000 .50 caliber target rifles.

Once you ban X it gets easier to ban everything else.
